$155,000 2021 Maserati Levante GTS Review - Italian Stallion

00:00 [Music] 00:04 on the area I'm Jacob going for a drive 00:10 [Music] 00:14 40:19 Maserati Levante GTS the 00:18 second-fastest one so is it Maserati or 00:20 a Maserati 00:21 I say Maserati but it's probably very 00:23 wrong let us know in the comments 00:25 massive rad a sports car horsepower and 00:27 torque 550 horsepower 538 pound-feet of 00:32 torque from a 3.8 liter twin turbo v8 00:34 and for you Europeans since this is a 00:36 European vehicle 730 Newton meters

of 00:39 torque 00:41 [Music] 00:42 it's really fast and it sounds really 00:44 good and that's because it's a Ferrari 00:46 engine not Ferrari derived pretty much 00:53 yeah so it's not exactly a Ferrari 00:55 engine but it's built by Ferrari and 00:57 it's a cross plane crank not a flat 01:00 plane crank which would go into the 01:01 Ferrari version oh and by the way a lot 01:03 of you guys are watching without 01:04 subscribing so just do us a favor hit 01:06 the subscribe button only two

videos per 01:08 week sometimes a third bonus video yeah 01:10 and a live video here and there so let's 01:12 get into what Maserati is it is owned by 01:15 Chrysler company it is owned by FCA Fiat 01:18 Chrysler automobiles and is that a good 01:20 thing or a bad thing I think it's a good 01:22 thing because FCA can inject a lot of 01:24 money into them and they still have a 01:26 relationship with Ferrari obviously so I 01:28 think it's good overall it's like a 01:29 wi n-win yeah and right

through cliche 01:33 corner quickly it's very fun it's like 01:35 very car like it is and it also looks 01:38 very car like so let's start with the 01:41 looks do you like it I do sometimes 01:44 sometimes I don't like it too much but 01:46 overall I think it looks great 01:47 I do agree I think it looks good overall 01:50 I think the front end is my favorite 01:51 part so the front end of the Maserati 01:53 looks like a Maserati which is wicked 01:54 and ever y single person I've met

is 01:56 excited about the word Maserati yeah it 01:59 sounds exotic because it is exotic and 02:01 it looks exotic too 02:03 yeah so we've got that big front grille 02:05 that kind of scoops in yeah and you said 02:07 it had an underbite yeah it's the most 02:09 underbody car I've ever seen we're like 02:11 the lower lip just comes out so much 02:13 Factory I didn't notice until you 02:14 pointed it out but now I can't unsee the 02:16 underbite an d then we got that cool try 02:18 that logo

right in the middle yes we do 02:19 which also kind of looks like the 02:21 Ukranian fib yeah yeah so I don't know 02:23 if it's just a Toronto thing but 02:24 Ukrainians love to put the Ukranian logo 02:26 as a chrome badge next to whatever car 02:28 they have I think it's because it looks 02:29 like a car symbol but I don't know if 02:31 that happens everywhere else or just 02:32 Toronto so let me know let us know your 02:34 easy cran ium buy that 02:35 okay and now headlights the

headlights 02:37 look good they're not too special but 02:38 the LEDs fit the car very well 02:40 yeah daytime running light mode is much 02:41 better than full-on yeah and then they 02:43 have these weird little fog lights too 02:44 yeah it looks it looks very angry from 02:46 the front which i think is a good look 02:47 but it's like angry classy everything 02:49 about this is still classy 02:51 oh and what about the rear view the rear 02:53 view is okay I think my favorite part 02:54 overall

is the exhaust tips yeah they 02:56 are 20 19 real so real tips with a fake 02:59 exhaust behind it exactly so they don't 03:01 look as bad as BMW is like not even 03:02 close these are still very very good and 03:04 then the taillights are pretty nice it's 03:06 kind of a simple outline but I think 03:07 it's like that across Maserati for a 03:09 while yeah exactly and then people also 03:11 comment to the kia s tandard kind of 03:12 copied maserati because of that so oh I 03:14 haven't heard

kiss ting and I heard rx-7 03:16 all right I'm sure Kia stinger copied 03:19 everyone I'm sure they did anything else 03:21 about the rear end that you like the 03:23 spoilers got a couple little gaps in it 03:24 oh yeah I did notice that it looks 03:26 pretty sporty it's good and now to the 03:28 most controversial part of the Levante 03:30 is the side view the side view is the 03:32 worst part of it for me it's just 03:33 there's something about it that's not 03:35 right I think I know what it

is I think 03:36 it's not boxy enough it looks kind of 03:38 too long of a nose and a car that's just 03:41 been lifted up instead of it an SUV from 03:43 the ground up yeah it looks like more of 03:44 a car profile and everything overall 03:47 than an SUV but nobody's really doing 03:48 that No 03:49 so there's room for that in the market 03:51 of luxury SUVs and I don't think it 03:53 lo oks too bad I think it just looks a 03:55 little off yeah it's just different but 03:57 from the rear

three-quarter view it 03:58 actually looks very nice the 3/4 is 04:00 better but I prefer the front end but 04:02 the rear 3/4 is better than the front 04:03 3/4 yes but overall solid looking car 04:07 yeah for sure 04:08 we've got the little badge on the seat 04:09 pillar which I think looks really nice 04:10 is that it is a luxury trademark and the 04:12 only real body line f rom the side is 04:13 over the rear wheel and it looks pretty 04:15 good I think there's a lot of room

for 04:16 improvement speaking of the wheels I 04:18 really like these wheels they're very 04:20 nice 04:21 they're so fitting for this vehicle and 04:23 what kind of brakes do we have on them 04:24 Maserati branded Brembos and then what 04:27 is the Continental recommended tire the 04:29 Continental Sport contact five and how 04:31 about those fake vents on the fen der 04:33 yeah they look alright it's a Maserati 04:35 thing yeah coz back in the day cars used 04:38 to put those for how many

cylinders 04:39 there where on each side feels the VA to 04:41 be four and four v6 three and three but 04:43 I guess now we just kind of 04:44 stuck around yeah because this has three 04:46 and three even though this has a v8 and 04:48 now that we're doing with the looks time 04:50 for today's sponsor VIN zero watches so 04:52 you guys know we love in se veral watches 04:54 you hear the ads all the time but today 04:55 we've got a special thing for you 04:57 we've got 20% off limited time only

24 05:00 hours and then it goes down to 15% off 05:02 so if you're waiting for a watch now is 05:04 the time this is the biggest sale that 05:06 we can get you guys so to get the 20% 05:08 off go to Vince Aero watches comm slash 05:10 SP June it's valid for the whole store 05:12 and free worldwide shipping and now I 05:14 want to talk about t he interior a little 05:15 bit let's talk about the redness of it 05:17 no I want to oh it is rad let's show it 05:21 but I want to talk about

the 05:22 infotainment stuff because in somebody 05:23 else's YouTube videos about Maseratis I 05:25 saw a lot of negative things but I got 05:28 in here and I was very pleasantly 05:30 surprised because it's got a lot of 05:31 Chrysler stuff in here well if you're 05:33 used to FCA you'll be used to this 05:34 infotainment in a m atter of minutes so 05:36 it's got you connect but it's branded 05:38 with the Maserati logo so we've got 05:39 apple carplay 05:40 Android auto it's got

rewinding 05:42 satellite radio I think because it's not 05:44 enabled here but the replay button is 05:46 there yeah it's speaking of apple 05:47 carplay this was so easy to set up I 05:49 plug it in for the first time and it 05:51 worked no hooking up like a BMW or 05:53 anything it was the easiest infotainment 05:55 to hook up apple carplay to in the world 05:57 all we want to do is plug in a phone and 05:58 have it basically displayed on the 06:00 screen and it works like that

we're 06:01 gonna plug in my phone for the first 06:03 time the Maserati and see if apple 06:04 carplay starts up no tricks no syncing 06:07 no Wi-Fi let's see what have you got 06:10 something in it and it's up oh wow that 06:12 was quick everybody else take notes from 06:16 Maserati then we've got a rever se camera 06:18 a really really good 360 camera which 06:21 makes it super easy to park I don't 06:23 think the resolution is quite up there 06:24 but it's still quite clear very

accurate 06:26 yes that's the most important part and 06:27 the interesting part is we have this 06:29 double scroll wheel to control it yeah 06:31 it's the first time we've seen a 06:33 double-layered scroll wheel and it works 06:35 kind of well the screen is still touch 06:36 but the bottom on e controls kind of 06:38 where the thing goes on the screen and 06:40 then we've got a menu button which will 06:41 drop it down to the lower menu and the 06:43 top one is a volume knob and you

always 06:45 say if there's a scroll wheel to luxury 06:46 cars so maybe they just added that to 06:48 prove that it's a luxury car I like it 06:50 the only thing that sucks is you can't 06:51 move the scroll wheel up-down left-right 06:52 that's right but besides that it gets 06:54 the job done but there is no tuning knob 06:56 which kind of sucks 06:57 and speaking of no tuning knob I think 06:58 probably the cheapest part of this 07:00 interior are the button the climate 07:01 control or

everything just the climate 07:02 control mostly is it worse than the Alfa 07:04 Romeo no because that's also the same 07:06 company essentially sort of all under 07:08 FCA yeah it doesn't really bother me as 07:10 long as everything works I don't think 07:11 I'm rattled by anything okay 07:13 and speaking of more cheap buttons I 07:14 think the steering wheel looks kind of 07:16 cheap and the buttons on the steering 07:17 wheel also feel kind of cheap I think 07:18 what you want is piano black

buttons 07:20 even though you'd complain about it 07:21 being piano black no not necessarily in 07:23 a luxury car I just want like better 07:25 fonts or something I yeah yeah I guess 07:28 the Chrysler font is the Chrysler font 07:29 but the fonts in the gaug e cluster are 07:31 really nice yeah they are so it looks 07:33 very fancy and the gauge cluster is very 07:35 simple we've got our speed on the left 07:36 our tack on the right nothing confusing 07:38 at all I like how all of the

numbers 07:40 light up on the side they have like 07:42 little notches that light up it's a 07:43 really nice classy touch and then in the 07:45 middle we've got pretty standard FCA 07:47 gauges like at the track hawk and like 07:49 the Challenger and everything yep pretty 07:50 much the same but the only thing is it 07:52 doesn't show every digit in the speed 07:54 it'll skip them on like every single 07:56 other FCA Prada oh that's funny and then 07:58 next to our scroll wheel and our

normal 07:59 shifter which works perfect we've got a 08:01 couple buttons for our sport mode 08:03 suspension and a button for increased 08:05 control and efficiency yeah I've never 08:07 seen an ice button before yeah but it's 08:09 ni ce because it does make it easier like 08:11 you don't have to always rip it in this 08:13 car and it'll help save gas if you're in 08:15 that mode I definitely only drove this 08:16 in sport mode yeah but you don't have to 08:18 it's not one of those cars

that's 08:19 forcing you to drive with the paddles 08:21 the whole time it's not quite like an 08:23 Alfa Romeo Stovall Quadrifoglio no terms 08:25 of the feeling 08:29 exactly how we'll get into that when you 08:30 drive bu t it's almost there but not 08:32 quite true but similar to the Alfa Romeo 08:34 we do have column mounted paddles and 08:37 there fan-friggin'-tastic they are but 08:39 they feel a little bit smaller than ones 08:40 on the Alfa like I feel like we were 08:42 really spoiled

by those ones that Alfa 08:43 was perfect those paddles are really 08:45 nice and so are these ones though okay 08:47 now let's get back into the redness of 08:49 the whole interior thank you I love red 08:51 int eriors and Maserati have spoiled me 08:53 with this red it's pretty perfect in 08:55 here it's on the dash we have carbon 08:57 fibre as well 3d big carbon five it's 09:00 like a dry carbon like the actual 09:02 texture it looks pretty cool it's like 09:04 what we had in the i8 and the

m2 09:05 competition that's exactly it another 09:07 cool thing is when you go to your seat 09:08 settings 09:09 it'll also change your radio station to 09:11 your preset radio station I think that's 09:13 the first time we've experienced that 09:14 that's a luxury it is cool then we've 09:16 got Alcantara on the headliner a nice 09:18 big sunroof moonroof kind of thing it 09:20 does look pretty classy and let's check 09:22 the visors first maserati's visor test 09:25 three two one yes yeah good

job 09:28 it slides back but I have a complaint 09:30 well what's this yeah this angles oh 09:32 yeah it barely covers the Sun once it 09:34 starts getting lower it's still a pass 09:36 bu t it's a pass but there's a little bit 09:38 of weirdness to it you guys got some 09:39 fixing to do and then the cup holder it 09:41 will fit a small cup perfectly fine but 09:44 you've got a little gripe with the cup 09:45 holder area yes so it's actually 09:46 difficult to close it because this 09:48 carbon

fiber thing is like this massive 09:50 latch thing I think they do that because 09:52 part of the latch is the cup holder see 09:55 right here I see that but they didn't so 09: 57 if they made it too easy it would have 09:59 closed on people's drink by mistake I'm 10:01 I'm 100 fine with it I don't like it and 10:04 how's the back seat room pretty damn 10:06 good and how about the seats seats are 10:08 super comfortable they're sporty but not 10:10 too bolstered I really like the

Maserati 10:11 logo stitched into the headrests but 10:13 I've got a gripe with the headrest and 10:14 that is an option if you pull the 10:16 headrest forward you feel your lumbar 10:19 pull back I noticed that I don't 10:21 understand why it happens like that I 10:23 don't know either 10:23 I feel like a lecture car shreddin but I 10:25 feel like it's on like a big stick like 10:27 in the seat yeah it's super weird it is 10:30 but overall love the seats love 10:31 everything in here your turn

to drive 10:33 alright watch Patrol launch control 10:35 doesn't have it 10:40 I don't think it needs it no it's really 10:43 fast pretty much anywhere you are in the 10:44 rpms it'll go there's like the slightest 10:47 hint of turbo lag but it's really 10:48 nothing it's just already fast because 10:50 it's a v8 and you can hear the turbo all 10:55 the time yeah it's awesome 10:56 especially when you roll down the 10:57 windows you just get these turbo spools 10:59 yeah yeah it's awesome well

something I 11:01 wouldn't expect but I kind of do expect 11:03 yeah a little bit so this is the GTS 11:05 there is the Trofeo above this wh ich is 11:08 even faster i think that's 590 11:10 horsepower i'm sure it's fun but this is 11:12 already like really good I don't really 11:14 think you need more than this yeah but 11:16 I'm sure like at that launch control 11:17 will help let me just enough if you're 11:19 racing yeah so that one does have launch 11:21 control and it also has an

additional 11:22 more aggressive mode this one just has 11:25 sport mode and then there also have a 11:26 sport adjustment for t he dampers so when 11:28 you put both of those in the sport mode 11:30 this thing does firm up but it's still 11:32 very comfortable and it is on air 11:34 suspension so we can raise or lower it 11:36 with a button right here and I'm going 11:37 to test the suspension in the handling 11:39 characteristics into a cliche corner for 11:42 a full luxury send this is

good 11:45 there's definitely body roll but it just 11:47 it just goes but have you noticed how 11:49 oversteer it i s I haven't really I feel 11:52 it to be really balanced like it's 11:54 extremely well balanced no understeer no 11:56 understeer that one understeer is pretty 11:58 much oversteer 11:59 well no understeer is perfectly balanced 12:00 so what I noticed I was taking a left 12:02 turn out of a driveway night you know 12:04 you sometimes you forward in the car 12:05 retraction on see

what it does could 12:06 usually it bogs down this thing stuck 12:08 the back out so oversteer quite a b it 12:11 yeah and I'm like who lets you do that 12:13 with traction fully on you know why why 12:15 is this is mostly 100% rear-wheel drive 12:17 until it sends a slip then it sends 12:20 power to the front it's just so perfect 12:22 like if it was a Mercedes it would have 12:24 bogged down right away yeah so this has 12:25 perfect 50:50 weight distribution for an 12:28 SUV and it's rear-wheel

drive until it 12:31 sends a slip it's incredible and another 12:33 reason you were probably able to get it 12:34 to step out sideways is because it has a 12:36 limited slip differential in the rear 12:38 and I want to mention the steering as 12:40 well it's really really light and I wish 12:42 it was a quicker steering ratio which 12:43 maybe is corrected on the trophy 12:46 I had no issues with it it is light but 12:48 it feels synthetically heavy when you're 12:50 pushing it around a couple

corners it 12:51 almost feels luxurious which is weird 12:53 yeah but it makes s ense why it's in this 12:55 and it why it feels like that oh 12:57 speaking of the steering wheel did you 12:58 notice that there are volume control and 13:00 tuning buttons behind it I didn't 13:01 because I was only using the paddles 13:03 because I love these paddles so much it 13:04 is Chrysler yeah yeah that makes sense 13:06 Fiat Chrysler automobiles someone's 13:08 gonna get upset that we keep going at

a 13:10 Chrysler I don't know what do we say 13:12 Chrysler we mean FCA I like the name 13:14 Chrysler and let's floor it into talking 13:17 about the exhaust because this car is so 13:18 fast and it sounds really good it sounds 13:20 really good but there's a reason we 13:22 didn't start the video with the exhaust 13:23 like we did in the Alfa Romeo because it 13:25 doesn't sound that crazy no it doesn't 13:27 have that when you're up shift it kind 13:29 of sucks that there's no shift

lights 13:30 and this like there was in the Alfa 13:32 R omeo stubby oh yeah 13:33 so the Alfa has basically the same 13:34 engine as this but with two cylinders 13:36 chopped off it's that same Ferrari 13:38 derived engine but it's missing all that 13:40 exhaust tuning and whatever but it has 13:42 the proper amount of cylinders yeah I 13:44 think it sounds really good for what it 13:45 is it's a it's a very classy exhaust 13:48 note which is again weird to say and 13:50 that's why I can drive

the car in the 13:51 icy emo because it does n't always force 13:53 me to go faster and faster like the Alfa 13:56 did yeah but it is a valved exhaust so 13:57 that's why I driving the sport because 13:59 it does open up and it sounds a lot 14:00 better in school and speaking of driving 14:02 slow I did get stuck in rush-hour 14:04 traffic today and I did use the highway 14:05 system and it works oddly good yes so 14:09 this does have adaptive cruise and Lane 14:10 keep assist when it turns on

your whole 14:12 thing goes gree n so you know it's on but 14:14 you can only use it on highways like I 14:15 was on an on-ramp and I guess it didn't 14:17 think that was a highway so it turned 14:18 off and then turned back on 14:19 oh that's kind of funny and then it'll 14:20 beep at you like right away but if you 14:22 keep your both your hands on it in 14:24 stop-and-go rush-hour traffic it's not 14:26 that bad and it's Lane centering yeah 14:28 but then there's no like lane keep 14:29 assist

that pulls you out r ight now okay 14:31 you're across this line yeah I think but 14:33 we do have blind spot monitoring which 14:35 is good yeah I mean it's an SUV you 14:36 probably care about that kind of stuff 14:38 and when I'm looking out there I look at 14:40 my frameless windows on an SUV yeah it 14:43 makes it so luxurious and unlike the 14:45 Volvo SUV which I hit my head on the top 14:47 of the doorframe this I wouldn't have 14:49 that issue because the windows on I 14:50 surprised

myself y eah but if I got into 14:52 a Volvo right after this it'd probably 14:53 be door right to the head right 14:55 probably and what I like is that the 14:57 back windows have like a bluish tint on 14:59 them yeah it's very different it's like 15:00 old-school with Mercedes used to do like 15:02 the old lexus RX or whatever yeah that 15:04 too 15:04 and back to how it drives and all that 15:06 stuff the suspension is actually really 15:08 soft like going over bumps is completely 15:09 fine
the driving position itself is 15:11 pretty low I really like the driving 15:13 position it's not too low not too high 15:15 it's right in the middle and speaking of 15:17 that exhaust note which sounds really 15:19 good we also have a ZF 8-speed and it 15:21 shifts really quick it's that zed fw 15:23 know and love shifts very quick and has 15:24 those little farts up at the top every 15:26 time you shift barely it is barely but 15:29 it's definitely there okay now there's a 15:31 couple thi ngs

that i've forgot to 15:32 mention about the interior 15:33 number one the box test let's find out 15:39 six seven eight and the ninth doesn't 15:44 fit sorry gifts key pops not too much 15:48 room because of the slope but i feel 15:50 like you can still fit a whole bicycle 15:51 in there it's almost like they went in 15:53 between the coupe and regular SUV trend 15:55 yeah they split it right down the middle 15:57 and that way they're enough to make two 15:58 models exactly smart okay but in

the 16:00 trunk instead of grocery bag hangers 16:02 we've got this strap on the side and 16:03 it's pretty much just as good as grocery 16:05 bag hangers because you can just put 16:06 your groceries in there and it pushes it 16:08 right in then you are also putting out 16:10 this clock 16:11 yeah the mark of every luxury vehicle is 16:13 having an analog clock and this one does 16:15 have it do you like it it's kind of too 16:16 small I like I like the Maserati logo in 16:19 it the logo is

cool is it because you're 16:22 Ukranian yeah I need to put a trident on 16:24 everything I own every car so with 16:27 everything out of the way let's get to 16:29 the price of this luxury SUV this 16:32 Italian automobile starts at 138 16:34 thousand five hundred dollars and this 16:36 is sitting at one hundred and fifty five 16:37 thousand five hundred and forty dollars 16:39 Canadian which is a very reasonable 16:41 price it's right up there with the 1 6:43 Porsche Cayenne which this

competes 16:44 directly with considering the amount of 16:46 prestige that comes up with the Maserati 16:48 name I think this is pretty much a steal 16:50 because if you say you've got a Cayenne 16:52 nobody really cares but if you say you 16:54 have a Maserati 16:55 it's like hope you have a Maserati it 16:57 sounds a lot more exotic like way more 17:00 just everyone is more excited about 17:02 you having a muscle writer than they are 17:03 ab out you having a Porsche because 17:04 Maserati is

almost on the level of 17:06 Ferrari so people know them associated 17:09 with each other so it's that crazy level 17:10 like way above Porsche even though it is 17:13 Chrysler inside exactly like I even 17:15 popped the hood at my mechanic and he's 17:16 like I know these clips I know loves 17:18 clips yeah those sensors those are FCA 17:20 so we saw some comments wanting more 17:22 comparisons to other cars this compared 17:25 to the Alfa Romeo stove vo I think I 17:26 like that one more

personally but I 17:28 understand the appeal of this one this 17:30 is more luxurious that's more for the 17:31 driver exactly then how about this to 17:34 say the x3 I'm that we just drove this 17:36 is bigger than the X trim so it doesn't 17:38 really compete with it it would kind of 17:39 compete with the x5 m but I still think 17:41 I like this more that had only 40 less 17:43 horsepower but this feels like it has a 17:45 hundred more pretty much it's way more 17:47 exciting to drive way

more exciting to 17:49 shift and I would say more luxurious 17:50 inside and we've also driven the Range 17:52 Rover Sport SVR and that thing sounded 17:54 so incredible I think both of those are 17:56 kind of tied but this has apple carplay 17:59 where that one didn't all right and then 18:01 this name carries a lot more than the 18:03 Range Rover name it does carry quite a 18:05 bit finally we get to the tr ack hawk 18:10 it doesn't directly compete with this 18:12 but it kind of does I think I

would take 18:15 this over a track Hawk really I mean the 18:17 track Hawk is super cool but the name 18:20 just goes so far I think this is the 18:23 Italian track Hawk 18:24 I guess the Trofeo would be I'm okay 18:26 with that I think I think that's it 18:28 that's good that's it I still like the 18:29 track Hawk more but I'm not the market 18:31 for this car so I understand that this 18:32 has a lot more luxury appeal than the 18:34 track Hawk so let us know what you think 18:36 of our first
