00:00 here's what to expect in this car review 00:02 launch control 00:03 [Music] 00:06 and how does this thing sound death mode 00:10 and super death mode and what's cool is 00:12 you're gonna actually do like brakes and 00:13 burnouts in this and donut I'm actually 00:20 not that cool like I'm being honest and 00:22 not that cold but overall this interior 00:24 looks pretty nice especially in white 00:26 how about this against six Miatas I'm 00:29 Jake I'm the area we're going for

a 00:31 drive 00:32 [Music] 00:36 20:20 BMW m8 competition Cabriolet in 00:41 the middle of winter with launch control 00:45 [Music] 00:46 Oh Mike okay that was pretty hard 00:51 considering the conditions the m855 was 00:54 pretty fast as it was but this is like 00:56 crazy fast 00:57 yeah it's next-level this is about a 00:59 hundred extra horsepower on top of the m 01:02 858 m / horsepower and torque 617 01:06 horsepower 535 pound-feet of torque from 01:09 a four point four liter twin turbo

v8 01:11 [Music] 01:14 middle of winter so that was not 0 to 01:17 100 km/h in three point three seconds 01:19 what this can do that in the summer okay 01:21 so this is all-wheel drive 01:23 yes it is X Drive but we can also 01:25 configure it to be just rear-wheel drive 01:26 and do burnouts and do donuts yeah so 01:29 should we show the viewers that by 01:31 pressing the m2 button right now and 01:43 that is how a donut looks in the winter 01:45 in the m8 competition Ca briolet and

if 01:48 you're wondering why we're driving this 01:49 in the winter with the top down we had 01:51 the chance to drive it we didn't want to 01:53 say no and we weren't going to drive a 01:54 cabriolet 01:55 not top down exactly so we're gonna 01:57 assess this for what it is in the winter 01:59 but it's still a fantastic car and it 02:01 actually shows that you can drive insane 02:03 horsepower cars like this in the winter 02:04 just fine yeah cuz even with a ll the 02:06 heat and stuff like

this has a neck 02:07 scarf heated seats heated steering wheel 02:09 you put the windows up it's not bad no 02:12 it's not my comparison is if you go 02:14 skiing you're out in the cold anyways 02:17 you're just doing physical activity this 02:18 is the same thing you're just driving a 02:20 car which is like just as fun as skiing 02:21 sometimes pretty much and this also 02:23 shows you the level of engineering with 02:25 the traction control and everything like 02:26 that so I'm gonna send it

into cliche 02:28 corner and get just a little bit 02:29 sideways because it's a little bit 02:31 sketchy 02:32 it's not that bad handling is gonna be a 02:35 little bit difficult to talk about but 02:36 overall this thing powers through cliche 02:39 corners sideways but we have been 02:41 driving it throughout the Christmas 02:42 break and it was dry like this thing is 02:45 absolutely ripping it yeah we already 02:47 thought that the m8 50 yards really 02:49 really fast and this is faster but

it's 02:52 not like that that much faster no I 02:54 thought for an Emmy a competition like 02:56 I'd be pooping my pants every time I'm 02:58 driving it but it's like improvement um 02:59 850 I it's like it's kind of similar 03:01 yeah so the theme of this car seems to 03:04 be that it's a lot it's too much but 03:06 it's also not enough yeah yeah for sure 03:08 okay but let's talk about this engine 03:10 the power delivery is insane just like 03:13 the MA 50 I this is just a little

bit 03:15 extra because it does have pretty much 03:16 about 100 extra horsepower yeah the only 03:18 instant power really really fast the 03:21 power band is basically unlimited and 03:23 how does this thing sound 03:26 okay it does sound kind of okay it's got 03:29 good crackles and pops and stuff and 03:31 it's like very deep and throaty but it 03:32 feels just like not authentic yeah and 03:35 that's kind of a thing with the eight 03:36 series I do like it for every eight but 03:38 I don't

like it in comparison to the s63 03:40 which this would compete with yeah that 03:42 sounds way better and even on the BMW 03:44 lineup I was in love with that m4 sound 03:46 it just doesn't have this is more like 03:48 the set for where it's like yeah it's 03:50 grunty it's got these aggressive sounds 03:52 but it's just overall it kind of does 03:54 nothing for me and the biggest problem I 03:56 fou nd is when you start up the car like 03:58 saying your parking garage I guess 03:59 whenever

it's starting up it's such a 04:01 low frequency and so loud that it like 04:03 literally kills your eardrums it's got a 04:06 really basic tone to it look it's so 04:08 deep and even with the exhaust off like 04:09 it's hard for everyday stuff sometimes 04:12 and you can change the exhaust mode so 04:13 let's have a listen to both on and off 04:23 on one major difference from the m855 04: 28 rear-wheel steering I don't really 04:30 notice that much of a difference this 04:31 does still hide its

overall size very 04:33 well but I don't miss it so now let's 04:35 talk about the transmission it is a ZF 04:37 8-speed Auto which we did love in the ma 04:39 50 I and I still love it in this yeah 04:41 it's nice pretty decent paddles and 04:43 everything yeah the paddles are all 04:44 right and we do have a different shifter 04:46 in this we don't have a crystal shifter 04:47 we've got that weird kind of M style 04:49 shifter where it's kind of like a 04:51 simulated manual type thing so I

feel 04:53 like we've got m5 competition stuff in 04:55 here because we've got the m5 04:56 competition head-up display and the m5 04:58 competition shifter and it's it's not my 05:01 favorite BMW one they've got like six 05:02 better ones yeah and there's actually a 05:04 bunch of different stuff that they 05:05 changed in terms of the drive modes and 05:07 how you adjust them and we'll get to 05:08 that in a second but overall I don't 05:10 like what they did and so like we 05:12 mentioned

earlier this does have X Drive 05:13 it is all-wheel drive it is obviously 05:15 primarily rear bias then you could 05:17 definitely feel it now you can control 05:19 rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive 05:21 with our M buttons which I have 05:23 programmed into death mode and super 05:25 death mode but well the first one's not 05:27 really that bad it' s kind of bad but 05:29 it's not that I take everything Sport 05:30 Plus okay now let's get into the drive 05:32 modes coz it's super confusing

but the 05:34 one thing they did introduce with this 05:35 and the drive modes is a better gauge 05:38 cluster setup yeah so there's this new 05:39 button called 05:40 M mode which actually changes your 05:41 gauges and it also changes your level of 05:44 safety features yeah when you click the 05:46 button it'll turn it to that new style 05: 48 that we're really stoked about that in 05:50 real life we don't really care that much 05:52 about okay so the three modes we have 05:54 our Road sport

and track and the only 05:56 reason we have track is because we're in 05:57 the competition model and this has 05:59 nothing to do with drive mode stuff so 06:01 your suspension your engine is still not 06:02 affected by these modes but what kind of 06:04 sucks is say you're doing the lane keep 06:06 stop you can't have the cool g auge up 06:08 you got to go back to the old style one 06:09 and the next button we have is setup 06:11 which used to be hard buttons in every 06:12 other end model but

now it's all in the 06:14 infotainment so that's where you change 06:16 your chassis your engine your steering 06:17 in your brakes so you really need to 06:19 setup everything beforehand in this and 06:20 then program it to your buttons yeah 06:22 it's a little bit confusing especially 06:23 at first and it does take a little bit 06:25 more to get used through than 06:26 traditional end models but like 06:27 traditional M models we still do have 06:29 our traction control button right

here 06:30 so we have traction regular we have 06:32 traction 4-wheel Drive MDM sport and 06:34 then we have traction off and on top of 06:36 that we 06:37 rear-wheel drive mode and you can only 06:39 get to rear-wheel drive mode with 06:40 traction off and what's cool is you're 06:41 gonna actually do like brakes and 06:42 burnouts in this yes you can and donuts 06:45 that show with that clip again and since 06:50 this is the m8 and the eight series 06:52 overall this is a GT car so it's

still 06:54 very very comfortable even though it's 06:56 called the competition model yeah it's 06:58 super comfortable yeah so for daily 07:00 driving even if you get the m8 07:01 competition it's still gonna be super 07:03 comfortable Sport Plus is a little bit 07:05 stiff for suspension but i t's not as 07:06 stiff as like an AMG would ever be but 07:08 with those red steering wheel end 07:09 buttons you kind of just do like one 07:11 quick click when you need to do some 07:12 ripping and then

what click click back 07:14 to comfort exactly it works really 07:16 really well and this also has a break by 07:18 wire system which you can adjust through 07:20 the infotainment we haven't driven this 07:22 on the track and I haven't really 07:23 noticed a difference between comfor t and 07:25 sport on the street so I don't really 07:26 minded I'm sure it's gonna be a little 07:28 bit weird on track they just need to add 07:29 more and more stuff to justify the 07:31 really really high price

tag I think 07:33 pretty much but I mean they've added a 07:35 lot of horsepower so 07:37 oh my god yeah okay let's get you into 07:40 the driver's seat there's still a lot to 07:42 talk about launch controls ended 07:45 [Music] 07:50 okay Wow 07:53 it feels really fast b ut it doesn't feel 07:55 that much faster than the MA 50 i that's 07:57 the problem I know it's just like it's a 07:59 look but it's not enough okay so let's 08:02 get into inside the car what did they 08:04 change from the MA

50 I so the gauge 08:06 clusters the main thing that we can have 08:07 that cool mode where the tag goes up 08:09 it's still not like 911 good or anything 08:12 it's all kind of useless yeah I really 08:14 don't like it either but with the tach 08:15 if we hav e to head-up display off we get 08:17 cool shift lights that show up in the 08:19 middle which is nice they go in yellow 08:21 then if we add the head-up display on 08:22 we've got that m5 competition style 08:24 head-up display that takes

up pretty 08:26 much your whole windshield same with the 08:27 X 3m which I hate but there's a reduced 08:30 mode which brings it down which is much 08:32 better and then besides the shifter 08:33 being different 08:34 our infotainment pretty much the same we 08:36 can say hey BMW and access all our 08:38 shortcuts but do you know what sucks 08:40 about this model that I really really 08:42 miss what's that no hand gestures 08:43 because there's no room for a sensor ah 08:45 I catch myself doing

this and nothing 08:47 happened it sucked so much really you 08:49 still talk to it so there's that yeah I 08:50 really like the finger thing so we do 08:52 have wireless apple carplay oh I don't 08:54 think we have the wireless Android auto 08:55 yet no we don't but BMW has announced it 08:58 so 2020 but we're hope but you showed me 09:00 that article that old car infotainment 09:02 Tsar stealing all your data so now I'm 09:03 super freaked out by guessing every car 09:05 stealing data from

everyone about 09:07 everything apparently yeah so not the 09:09 plymouth brawler that's right so be 09:11 careful oh we're not allowed to make all 09:12 this time we'll bring it up this rear 09:13 it's a 2019 still when we film this 09:16 that's right 09:16 welcome to 2020 guys then also in the 09:18 infotainment we've got a new menu called 09:20 n menu yeah so you can figure your M 1 09:22 and M 2 buttons and your head up display 09:24 and a bunch of stuff there and your 09:25 instrument panel

I guess that's the only 09:26 bunch of stuff left haha and then in the 09:28 command center now we've got buttons for 09:30 our Cabriolet top to go up and down and 09:32 we got buttons for our next scarf yeah 09: 34 Mercedes calls it the next car if we're 09:35 just gonna call it that because it's a 09:36 really good name right here blows heat 09:38 right at your neck it's a very effective 09:40 on a day like today I'm actually not 09:42 that cool like I'm being honest I'm not 09:44 that cold and

it's just that freezing 09:45 yes zero degrees Celsius not whatever it 09:48 is in Fahrenheit which isn't zero like 09:50 the freezing point which doesn't make 09:51 736 guys join the metric system th at's 09:54 right that docked side and then with 09:56 this shifter we can now also adjust our 09:58 shift speed again which we could in the 09:59 m5 competition but we couldn't in 10:01 m8 50s that's right but this shift there 10:03 is such a pain compared to the rest cuz 10:05 you have to go right

to go into drive 10:06 then right for sport but sport doesn't 10:09 do sport it just those paddles and then 10:10 left and up for a reverse yeah they 10:12 tried to simulate a manual it's just not 10:14 the best you know how in Volvo's we 10:15 always end up in neutral yeah in this I 10:17 always end up in neutral same here I'm 10:19 like I'm like pulling down to go into 10:20 Drive and I'm just like changing a gear 10:22 that's they're not not in yeah and then 10:23 we have some carbon fibre

down here 10:25 we've got a bunch of gloss black which 10:26 I'm not a fan of and then we have a 10:28 bunch of leather and overall this 10:29 interior looks pretty nice especi ally in 10:31 white yes the quilted seats my wife was 10:34 so impressed by all that stuff and she 10:35 thought it was really cool how there is 10:37 a nice little flower in the speaker yeah 10:39 that's the design of the speaker and 10:41 like the interior light which also looks 10:43 very nice same old colors but the

back 10:45 seats there's no room to sit no 10:46 absolutely no room how about the front 10:48 seats front seats are super comfortable 10:49 on both sides there's no massage I know 10:51 I'm like yo I was looking forward to 10:53 what what what yeah okay Mercedes would 10:57 have a massage they would I noticed that 10:59 you've been using this little section 11:01 that you slide out for your seat I guess 11:02 for thigh support yeah I've actually 11:03 been enjoying thigh support now

yeah 11:05 it's kind of a pain cuz I got to put 11:06 that away because I don't need that 11:07 support I guess but like it's good that 11:09 you're act ually using it cuz I think we 11:10 talked about it like a year ago 11:11 we did and we didn't really know what it 11:12 was there for so now I'm using it and 11:13 enjoying it and we do have heated and 11:15 cooled seats I am enjoying my cooled 11:17 seats today just kidding 11:18 it's great hot and then we also have a 11:20 heated steering

wheel okay so we got a 11:21 cup holder that fits a small cup this is 11:23 a medium cup today wireless charger is 11:25 really nice yeah I have a new theory so 11:27 putting your phone in a wireless charger 11:29 that's a pain to get to behind coffee 11:30 cups makes it safer because there's less 11:33 chance you're gonna get to your car so I 11:34 think wireless apple carplay with a 11:37 wireless charger that's super hidden is 11:38 the safest thing now and you'll still 11:40 have your

vertical USB port which I 11:42 imagine is waterproof and you'll 11:44 probably spill coffee into it anyways 11:45 we've got a r eally fancy m8 competition 11:47 logo above that yeah I like that but 11:49 they're like black on black logos on the 11:50 whole car it's hard umm but it's always 11:52 these the lines yeah you think it's just 11:54 some dude who just painted the grills 11:55 m240 I pretty much and I guess we should 11:58 check the visors this looks no no it 12:01 won't three two one ah

come on guys and 12:04 this also has all the lane keep stuff 12:06 that the other BMWs have so you've got 12:08 traf fic jam it's just out of certain 12:09 speed it watches your eyes 12:11 yeah the lane keep works pretty well 12:13 I feel like this one bounced around a 12:14 little bit I still think Genesis Kia 12:16 Hyundai has the best overall Lane keep 12:19 this year and this also has the 360 12:21 camera that spins all the way around 12:22 it's very nice very clear and it's got 12:25 parking

assist which I used had my hands 12:27 up and it parked me out of the lane like 12:30 a typical BMW but that's work more so 12:33 there's no other car next to it and 12:35 that's why I just looked funny yeah so 12:36 now let's get to the looks you think 12:38 it's a big improvement over the 50 I 12:39 know I like the front end because it 12:42 makes it more M like you know the X 3m 12:44 the empty competition just like opens up 12:46 that grill a bit more it's definitely a 12:48 little bit more

M but it's not that much 12:49 more M but I think it's like that little 12:51 part that coun ts and I think this wins 12:53 for not having any fake girl at the 12:55 front at all yeah everything is real 12:57 except for the side vents well that's on 12:59 the side okay but that is a fake vent 13:01 and there's a lot of cool carbon fiber 13:02 everywhere and we should also pop the 13:04 hood to show the $1200 carbon fiber 13:06 engine cover yeah so we also have a 13:11 little carbon fiber spoiler

at the back 13:13 what do you think of that it looks so 13:14 small it's a littl e bit too small like 13:15 if you're gonna put on a carbon fiber 13:17 spoiler maybe a little bit bigger and 13:18 then the side body lines and everything 13:20 I think in blue this looks so like 90s 13:23 Mustang to me uh it kind of does and 13:25 these wheels do get a pass they're not 13:27 the regular competition wheels but we 13:29 are driving this in the winter so they 13:30 look fine for what this is and what

is 13:32 the Continental recommended tire for the 13:34 BMW and a co mpetition Cabriolet the 13:36 Conti winter contact TS 830 P so how 13:40 about the exhaust tips on this reel M 13:41 exhaust tips no fakery going on here I 13:43 love them how about the back and you 13:45 like it it's okay I like the taillights 13:47 just like all the other ones it has a 13:49 lot of like weird body lines around the 13:50 corner of the rear bumper that like from 13:52 certain angles just looks

ridiculous 13:53 yeah the diffuser looks good but I agre e 13:55 with like the side profile kind of looks 13:57 weird in the back but overall it looks 13:59 really good it looks good at the top of 14:01 who's good at the top down I think this 14:02 is a very good-looking BMW convertible 14:04 it is it definitely looks good we do 14:06 have the M mirrors so you know it's a 14:08 real M but do you like the looks of this 14:09 more than the s63 no I know I just don't 14:13 I love the s63 this looks

sporty er the 14:16 s63 just looks more mean and you know 14:18 what's crazy is the s63 still the old 14:20 model we still haven't seen the new one 14:21 which I don't know if I'm gonna like 14:23 more and before you send it into cliche 14:25 corner I'm gonna put you into track mode 14:27 so I'm gonna hold em mode and then set 14:29 you up so you're not distracted turns 14:31 off the screen yup so you can send it no 14:34 distractions how's that even in the snow 14:36 this thing is pretty good

like I don't 14:37 feel like ske tched out at all 14:40 like barely any slippage G we went on 14:42 flooring it and how does the steering 14:44 feel normal nothing weird I don't really 14:46 like it I didn't really like the MA 50i 14:48 steering either but this is slightly 14:50 better than the MA 50 ice theory is this 14:51 better than the m5 competition steering 14:53 yes but it does a little bit of that 14:55 weirdness so like dude do a little bit 14:57 of a jiggle and just kind of like

okay 14:59 ready see it does that like shimmy shake 15:02 thing so what I see there's nothing 15:03 you're ever gonna let go of the steering 15:05 wheel but just for illustration purpose 15:06 so when I see the same head-up display 15:08 in the car and a same shifter and then 15:10 you said it's a very similar motor I 15:11 assume they just take all those parts 15:14 and slap it right in they pretty much do 15:16 so let's get to the price it's obviously 15:17 a lot of money starts at one hundred

and 15:1 9 seventy three thousand five hundred 15:21 dollars Canadian and this one is 15:23 optioned out to one hundred and eighty 15:24 nine thousand two hundred dollars this 15:26 is like a two hundred thousand dollar 15:28 car yeah doesn't have a massage seat no 15:30 it doesn't but it is really fast it is 15:32 really fast but so is the ma fifty I 15:34 like only a little bit faster than that 15:37 and this doesn't look that much crazier 15:38 than the ma fifty I it really doesn't 15:40 and I
think this is probably the first 15:42 time where I'm gonna recommend the 15:43 slower model personally I think just get 15:45 the ma fifty eye over this you don't 15:47 need this no cuz this isn't enough but 15:50 it's also too much in certain ways yeah 15:53 it's like it's not enough extra on top 15:55 of the ma fifty-five even though it's a 15:57 hundred extra horsepower but I kind of 16:00 expect like 150 200 extra horsepower 16:03 yeah it's kind of weird personally if 16:05 we're talkin g

about 2-door BMWs I would 16:08 rather just buy two BMW m2 competitions 16:10 no question so would i but that's not 16:13 the crowd that's probably shopping for 16:14 this but yeah both of us agree on that 16:16 and then how about other Grand Tours so 16:18 you'd probably take an S 63 over this I 16:20 would how about the LC 500 looks-wise 16:22 alone since I still haven't driven one 16:24 yes and the convertible is new for 2020 16:27 as well which we haven't driven and 16:29 pro bably will never

get to drive yeah 16:30 maybe 16:31 who knows would this compete with an 16:32 Aston Martin yeah would I probably go 16:34 Aston Martin over this even though it's 16:36 got the old Mercedes infotainment stuff 16:38 I think it just has more pizzazz and 16:40 like the looks gets you through more 16:41 yeah I totally agree on that how about 16:42 this again 16:43 six Miatas I would take this I'll take 16:47 six mots imagine giving gonna be outta 16:48 to all your friends okay if you're 16:49 giving

them away but otherwise I don't 16:52 know crashing so let us know what you 16:56 think of the BMW m8 competition 16:58 Cabriolet let us know where it falls in 17:00 line with your cabriole AZ of GT cars 17:02 see you next time Inglês Convertible
