[Music] i'm yuri i'm jacob and we're going for a drive [Music] 2021 pole star one without launch control [Music] that was really weird holy horsepower torque 619 combined horsepower and 738 pound-feet of combined torque from a turbocharged and supercharged 2-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors on the rear axle and i am out of breath and if you want to see more launches subscribe to our channel because we launch every car at the beginning of every video and we've got this launch control

compilation right here which you can't click on because we're in the middle of the video yeah but it'll be somewhere yeah at the end so uh what happened on that launch there jacob okay there's a lot going on with this car so if you're an it nerd you're going to be very excited this is basically a front-wheel drive car so the gas engine powers the front wheels which we're fighting for grip which is what we heard with the traction control and then the electronic stuff powered the rear wheels

only which is what we didn't hear and then this is a plug-in hybrid with a long electric only range of 96 kilometers or 60 miles and when it's electric it's only rear-wheel drive yeah but let me floor it in normal sporty mode okay that's torquey as hell yeah it gets fast but there's a lot of modes where it doesn't get fast and it can get kind of gross like the speed isn't really good it's a very weird feeling because this does have a two liter turbocharged supercharged fo ur-cylinder with a

hybrid and then two electric motors in the back with three batteries so it's like there's a lot going on in this car and even though this looks like a volvo coupe it is not a vulva coupe this is the pole star before i get to the looks a little sent through cliche corner okay dude this rip's pretty hard yeah it's it's kind of weird and unpredictable but it gets through really quickly yeah it's doing a lot right now i feel like i could feel things changing somet imes i'll hear the exhaust pump

in sometimes i won't sometimes there's a supercharger sometimes there's an electric motor like yeah but it is fast it is okay so let's get into the looks because this is not a volvo this is a pole star even though it looks exactly like a volvo coupe would yes so pole star branched out and made their own company and this being the first car because now there's also a pulse r2 which is a full ev so does this look good i think obviously this looks ama zing yeah amazing like stunningly good looking

but my personal theory is they're never gonna put out a coupe from volvo so they took out the volvo coupe look and just toss it here because this is exactly what a coupe volvo would look like 100 volvo is not gonna ever do a coupe because of this but a little spoiler for the end of the video this thing is so freaking expensive which sucks because it would be awesome to have just like a naturally aspirated volvo coupe that looked like th is but you'll never ever get that i think i already spoiled

it in the title anyways so front end it looks really cool we've got the awesome grille up front which is exactly the volvo grille but whoa but nicer looking it's not called the grillier it's called a grid the grip okay yeah yeah i don't know all right marketing what are these headlights called are they not called the thor's hammer headlights i don't know they're called like the loki's hammer headlights something like that ac tually would be captain america's hammer because now opposite uh he has

the hammer now from the last adventures okay anyways these headlights do look really good because we like them on volvos yeah yeah what if we pop the hood not as much orange high voltage lines as i expected just a two liter four cylinder with a really cool carbon fiber intake and then if we just look at the front end it is very long it reminds me of a gt car because i guess this kind of is a gt car well this 100 is a gt car then looking at the body lines on the side very sharp very crisp so

chiseled probably the nicest body lines of the year yeah like very muscly which i totally did not think that they would ever do something like this it kind of looks like the volvo version of the amg gt or gtr kind of i guess i mean yeah they are gt cars it's like what each one would look like yeah it's very interesting but it's a very good looking car yeah we got really cool chisels on the rear should ers which stick out super wide and each fender also has like a cool lip over it too and then do

you like these wheels because i love them i really like these wheels too and then we've got the gold pull star calipers behind those two yeah which look really cool and it's break by wire so the brakes feel a little bit weird in this car kind of like every volvo yeah the more hybrid stuff the weirder the volvo feels and one thing from the side which is the coolest and the weirdest because it's the coolest are the side view mirrors so they're like kind of flush with the mirror and when you change

the direction you change the whole mirror yeah i don't think i've ever seen that on a car before hype and then we've also got a cool little pole star badge on the side which is a sticker it is kind of cool i don't think you get that when you buy a real pull store because this is a press unit from california and then we also have door handles that are kind of gimmicky kind of li ke the lc500 where you click the button it'll pop out yeah but then these are actually extra hard to pull it doesn't

feel luxurious to get into this car yeah it's like yeah a little struggle every time it should just be like a really light touch just like it was on the lcd5 and then to close it you kind of got to give it a little bit more than you'd expect yeah but getting in is really cool because then you can see the carbon fiber on the dorsals because this is a carbon fiber bod y most of it at least okay and then when you're looking at the top you probably won't realize that this whole roof is glass from in

here it's very cool very like tesla style greenhouse-y yeah and i feel like it has very weird acoustics in here so let us know if this video sounds any different than all of our other videos because i'm getting like a weird vibe where it's like reverberating to what i'm saying and i don't i don't hear that at all yeah so let us know in the comments and t hen the back end we've got pretty much volvo sedan taillights yeah and they look really good i feel like they're like extended a little bit more

but that's about it then we've got some exhaustives at the bottom that are blacked out with like weird double exhausts back there yeah so it is 20 20 real or 20 20 fake whatever you want to call it but yeah it doesn't really sound very good let's take a listen to the outside anyways [Music] then we've got our reverse camera mounted so low at the bottom so reversing looks super weird yeah it's like a crazy wide-angle gopro in like the lowest mode and i think that's pretty much it for looks this

looks amazing they nailed it like this looks gorgeous but it doesn't look as exotic as i think the price of this is it does not at all but it's it's really good looking i think like if batman was sponsored by volvo instead of by dodge then for sure he would drive this he drives a dodge he drove a jeep renegade bro oh my god yeah a nd before you drive i want to put it into pure electric through cliche corner which is only rear-wheel drive so let's see how this feels oh interesting like it still

feels good through there but there's a serious lack of any power yeah and now there's no sound in here because we are purely electric which is really cool yeah it's just like a slow electric sports car that can't do anything fun but it's definitely faster than like a bmw i8 which is probably the closest competitor to t his but i don't know if that can go a launch in full electric let me do a full electric launch real quick okay brakes are good are you floored it's cool that you can do that it's

a little pathetic but whatever all right your turn to drive and then we'll talk about all the other weird stuff and the interior which is exactly a volvo interior send brake boost [Music] okay like at like 80 kilometers an hour you can feel like full torque it feels really good yeah it's pretty crazy but th is can do zero to 60 in 4.2 seconds which is pretty damn fast except it kind of feels weird to do that because of what's going on with the front wheels hit the brakes again hit the

brakes again okay okay all the way stop let's do that again without a brake boost okay and maybe so it doesn't do the chirping that's better that's way better yeah okay do not break boost the polestar one that you drive and all those launches were in esc sport mode so it wasn't full traction on it but you can't fully turn traction control all the way off yeah and because this is kind of primarily front wheel drive i'm actually getting a lot of torque steer through here which is a little

weird considering this is it's not really a supercar but it's it's priced kind of like a supercar and if i was the floor just driving i mean it picks up really well and that torque really gets you but it doesn't feel like 700 pound-feet of torque all the time it feels like you get th at in bursts sometimes yeah and then when you floored it i feel like you're kind of cruising in electric mode and then you can like hear the motor kick in and everything in the exhaust and i think it's pumped in just

like it's a lot of weirdness not much smoothness but like it is quick and it can be quick it's just gross quick it's just like a technology piece that they had to prove that they can make yeah it's like they made a production version of a concept and made it cost a lot of money because of that even though it's not probably that much money's worth yeah so something that you'd get upset about because they didn't make it so they actually made it yeah so it's like if the acura tlx actually cost

eighty thousand dollars but it looked exactly like the concept then i'd be happier and that would be this there you go and we do have an eight speed auto and i find that it responds better than it does in volvos but it's still not as good as like basically any thing else on the market you mean with the paddles or an auto no no with the paddles like where's red light yeah like that really makes sense we have an rpm gauge but we don't have any numbers and there are some red dots but it shifts way

before that anyways and it automatically upshifts and then when you put in the paddle mode it kicks you back into auto mode after a couple seconds anyways leave it indeed yes 100 and then we also have a regenerative braking mode so if we click the shifter down one more you feel that yes and we have to click the shifter down two times because this is just like a volvo so we do have to click forward and back twice to get into reverse or drive and if you swipe your screen to the right you can also

click the charge mode so it'll charge while driving around and you've got the electricity hold button like we did in the volvo xc60 t8 yeah anyways and then to briefly talk about the interior it is exactly that car in here yes pretty mu ch we have the same pretty much drive modes in here so if we press our drive mode button which is identical to the volvos power individual hybrid pure and all-wheel drive which are all self-explanatory the only thing is this shifter that's a glass shifter is kind

of different than the other ones but still the same issues the infotainment's the same apple carplay android auto really not my ideal infotainment in this like i know you like it i like it a lot but there's a lot of shortcut s that don't make sense and a lot of extra button clicks that make it a little bit more distracting while driving and then this does have serious xm no rewinding and it's also super difficult to add in your favorites proof of this having so many kilometers on it and nobody

has set any favors in it after 9 000 kilometers of this being driven but this also does have the bowers and wilkins system and it sounds unreal just like every other volvo yeah it's got the gothenburg sound syste m setting it's the best sound system i think ever and then after driving even a bunch more car since our last volvo what i really like is when you swipe it to the left screen you've got all your like driving safety settings right there i think that's a really good thing that nobody else

does yeah it is a really good place for it because it's still easily accessible while being in the touch screen and then my last rant about the infotainment so we've got a vertical screen which means we've got a nice big 360 camera but we can't have the 360 and reverse at the same time and then this also does have the pilot assist which is very nice yes so that's lean keep an adaptive cruise and our gauges are basically identical to every other volvo they're super digital a little bit

customizable as well and then we have carbon fiber throughout the interior which looks really nice it's a matte finish yeah i like it a lot and then we also have some matted out metallics in here lots of leather overall this interior looks very premium and the seats are also very comfortable i would love to take a long road trip in this car yes these are cool i really like all this like weird stitching cut out stuff but the front seats are difficult in the back seats which i think is also really

cool it's also kind of saying hey those back seats aren't real back seats so don't bother using them yeah the i don't fit you doesn't fit nobody fits back there and then this g lass roof is unreal and what i really like is this part right here you can put your hands above it it's kind of weird but it's kind of cool and then how about the visor test oh yeah we should probably test these nope total fail but mine's got a mirror and they're very high quality yeah they are does fit a small cup

just fine or a medium cup and then we're not going to box us this but the trunk is small it'll fit a carry-on probably another carry-on next to it if you didn't hav e the charging bag there and you can see all the cool engine stuff which is actually just cables yes it's not actual engine stuff that's high voltage wires and stuff because the battery is actually between the seats new age engine stuff yes motor motor stuff and apparently that glass is scratch proof not gonna test it out nope not in

the mood so now let's send this thing through cliche corner in sporty power mode and turning's pretty decent and it does pull you through but it primari ly feels like it's front-wheel drive which is really disconcerting considering i know what this thing looks like it wants to understeer before the rear motors kick in there's so weird but the rear kicks in just in time to get you through need to like be ready for it exactly it just doesn't feel like any other car on the road and it's just weird

to get used to but the suspension is very very good because we do have owens yeah olin's dampers dampers guys that's how you pronounce it be cause i am no longer attempting to pronounce it the other way which is the correct way because you guys destroyed me in the comments from two videos i'm done these are olins oil hens and these are hans oh no it's orlans it's uh i'm not even anywhere i can't even these are manually adjustable so you actually have to pop the hood and manually adjust them these

are set to medium in the front and the back and in terms of steering there's nothing weird everything feels totally normal it's got the right amount of weight and with these dampers set to medium there's actually not that much body roll considering how big this car is i think because it's a carbon fiber body that really helps and this has a bunch of crazy torque vectoring and like understeer control because there's so much electronics in here so that i can direct the exact amount of power to

the right wheel because there are individual motors on each rear wheel so it's like a real torque vectoring system b ut it doesn't feel mechanical because there is no drive shaft connecting the rear wheels to the front yo i bet you this is a total buzzkill car to do donuts in this winter i would i would 100 believe that try the electric brake boost and do a burnout nothing there's nothing i could run faster than this well you can't but yeah all right if i can beat this pole start in the first few

seconds you guys have to subscribe [Applause] okay so the actual electricity stuff that people probably care about you can charge this in less than one hour on a fast charger in about three to four hours on like a regular charger which is pretty good but you can also just let the car charge itself and i would just leave that as it is and just do that all right electric boogaloo just one final sent through cliche and electric and feels a little more normal it doesn't it does like it just feels

like i know the power is coming from the back and it's yeah it just it gives me a little bit more confidence to be honest i feel like if they made a full electric rear wheel drivers with this it'd be way sicker yeah or just slap a big old v8 in here this with a v8 would be a perfect competitor to the lc500 i think yes and then i guess this itself is kind of a competitor for the i8 it 100 is let's get to the price 199 000 canadian dollars canadian that's a lot of canadian dollars but if you look

at this as they made a prototype a production car and it costs a lot of money be cause of that it makes sense but this is definitely too much for what this is yes and just looking at it if you didn't know what it was and you didn't have someone like me to explain it to you because you weren't passing me by and opening the window so i can yell at what this is it doesn't look like it's two hundred thousand dollars yeah i think this is the most hipster car you can get because there's so much
