I'm Jacob URI will fold for a caiman van a Boxster Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS we've got both ones a stick ones an auto ptk they're kind of the same car so we're gonna compare them and get down to the nitty-gritty for you yeah we're gonna do this a little differently than usual so we're actually gonna drive in the same car and then a different car later horsepower and torque of the Cayman GTS that we're currently driving 365 horsepower and 309 pounds of torque and the
Boxster is different we'll get to that later and that power comes from a 2.5 litre four-cylinder boxer engine sitting right behind us because it's a mid-engine car so we learned that boxer means an engine with cylinders that go this way you learned I learned well everybody learns okay yes our viewers learned and I guess we'll talk more about that with the Boxster yes we'll also talk about it now so the engine is right behind this exactly where you want it exactly where I want it and since we're
driving the Cayman I think you get more sound out of this car because it's right here there's no top in the way there's none of that stuff it's just right there I think you might be right yeah it's just you get more sound and I like more sound so I think I already liked this car more so let's clear up one thing this is Mitch and a nod rear engine yes the 911s our rear engine which means they're behind the rear axle this is between the rear axle and the front axle which al so means we have trunk
space behind the engine yeah so this already is more practical than the 911 should we should we do the Box test all right let's go here's a comparison of both let's check it fill fit one box Donny's box no let's try the front so if you want to buy your own box Yuri will tell you how to do it in a second no problem patreon.com says the straight pipes to put your name on a box let you know if it fits in the trunk or doesn't or in the front thanks keV Suki pops s ince this is the GTS this does have
the sport exhaust from the factory no option is free it's included so we do have a button for that and it sounds pretty good it sounds kind of like a Subaru down low kind of like a tractor when it's idling but up top I like it to me this just sounds proportion this is what Porsche has always sounded to my ears a little different because it's a four-cylinder it used to be a six just like the 911 you can also control our sounds through the modes yes we have the selector right on the steering
wheel just like GT cars so you put it in sport as we learned in the 911 Carrera T's and you get lots of crackles and pops backfires according to the manual I also learned in the f-type that if you tap the gas you get some crackles and pops that translates right into this car but you don't get the backfires in normal or Sport+ yes as we learned in the Carrera T review same in this one exact same but it was different in the gt2 RS and the gt3 yes it was those didn't need any fake backfires no and
speaking of the steering wheel this is straight out of a GT car there's no buttons on it other than the mode selector I don't like that there's no buttons but I'll get into that later I love it with the exhaust crackles comparing it to an f-type the f-type you need to give it a little tap so the RPMs didn't move this one as long as you're above 3000 rpm you tap it and let off and it'll crackle every time I find it super easy to pop like you just basically just copped the throttle just like you
did in the f-type for me yeah I Rev popped an f-type on the highway today it was just an R you know right you did you get his window down I got right up to him let him have it a bunch and he had to pass by me to get a little bit of pop he didn't know the technique don't be that guy learn the exhaust pop techniques to share our videos since we're talking about the exhaust one funny thing that I noticed when we wer e squatting up in both these cars when you floor it the exhaust goes like this yeah
yeah it's the funniest thing ever to not just burly with the sound it's pretty funny it's really funny to see so this car is really fast right yes it is it's 365 horsepower which was definitely no slouch when we were on the track we did drive this on the track with a career T I remember hitting a higher top speed in the Cayman GTS than I did in the Carrera T and you were sitting next to me in the GT s and not the career T yeah this is a fast car and like I wasn't doing scientific tests but I
feel like this is as fast if not faster than a career team it is faster than the base 911 from 0 to 100 yeah there's something up I think probably angles better than a base 911 but I'll talk about this more time driving I love it's kind of cooler yeah well we'll get to that later later but anyways back to this car and six-speed manual not my favorite it feels kind of rubbery to be honest I do like the manual it wouldn't make me not buy this car but it just doesn't feel as good as the 911 career
t-shirt I think this feels almost as good I don't fully remember the difference but I had no issues with the manual transmission it's so easy to use compared to some other cars very easy to use it's just I don't like the feel of a ting the pearsons on 911 and I've come up with a new theory ok on the manual transmission what's that if your car comes with auto rev-matching you mi ght as well get a manual transmission because it's just as easy as automatic pretty much except this clutch is very
stiff ok yeah I don't mind it I'm just saying by this car it is very stiff starting at first is very odd off yeah it is be ready to kind of ride the clutch a bit you can turn off auto rough magic if you're in a normal mode only in normal mode but sports more plus an individual it's still on which kind of sucks because if I want backfires I can't do that without auto rap magic that's all I want so Porsche just add an extra little option that in individual turn on Rev pops and then turn off rev
matching that's it more options I think just just one or two that's it this manual transmission doesn't have a regular ebrake it has a pull button ebrake yes would you actually push in this car yeah that's what bothers me I think if you have an electronic e-brake Pole should be pulling the ebrake but there's you have to push to enable it anyways back to the engine this engine pulls very hard every year a little bit of turbo lag down low just the hair pretty much not noticeable so if
you're actually driving this car like you should you will not know mr. black metal and you've got a turbo gauge that shows your PS I love it yes psi not just min max it's perfect so the came in that we have has the optional sport suspension and since we're a cliche corner a little bit of a downshift and let's test this out it is so well balan ced as we found out on the track on the road it's just it's such a joy to drive this thing drive it hard you don't feel like you're gonna die it's just so
well balanced unlike the 911 which is rear engine so if this is almost slightly less exciting to drive but it's better to drive what I really like is how the traction control doesn't interfere too much yeah showdown Mercedes that's a bad joke yeah yeah but we have different ESC modes we have three different ones I mean we have on and then we have sport if you hold it just a little bit and then we have off if you hold it for a little bit longer I suggest keeping it on until you get some parking
lot of time because you don't want to wreck your Porsche yeah although PSM sport is very good and still very safe that's what I would drive it in sure sure with the sports suspension it's a little stiffer a little firmer it is apparently one centimeter lower than the other one that we have which have it but it's 2 cent imeters lower than a regular caiman or a Boxster to me they feel the same they do feel very similar you'd be hard-pressed to find the difference but this one feels just maybe a
hair stiffer maybe and we do have a button to control that and maybe to you not to me yeah that's fair there's a little bit of understeer like just a bit and then it just balances out perfectly and pulls you through every corner perfectly it is so safe so comfortable so perfect to drive mid-engine cars are my favorite they are your favorite they are so why don't you get a miniature car I want to I will what part would be want is a mid-engine car probably an older came in because that's all I can
afford how about a AMG SL 63 I said what I can afford what about an older one I would still think this but that's the front yeah that's a front mid-engine I want it right behind me I like the mr2 yeah I want one of those badly - mr2 Spyder the 90s looking 104 mm but you you won't you like the ug ly one the LRS I like all the ugly stuff yeah why all right Yuri I think we should get into the similarities and differences but we should pull over and check out the Boxster and then you drive the
box through it sounds good to me all right first difference ones are convertible ones a hardtop but one similarity they're both GTS is another similarity check this out on every Porsche that we drive if we drive it on the road we drive it on the street they get dirty here can someone please explain this to me it's probably for the tire shrine but it seems to happen on every Porsche moving on they both have the same front bumpers and they both have the same headlights and we also have the
new Porsche style for LED daytime running lights which I actually really like now do you have an apology to make yeah sorry everyone at Porsche I said I didn't like them I actually now do like them they both have the same rear ends and they both have spoilers that go up a nd down this one's a hatch this one's a convertible but the cool part is what the taillights both look like what I really like about the taillights is you can only see it from certain angles it's like this cool LED thing when
you hit the brakes yeah that's cool this is what the trunk looks like open and this is what the hatch looks like open slightly different equally cool this one's cool it this is what the engine looks like on the Boxster and this is what the engine looks like on the Cayman you can't see it we've got the same wheels and tires on both of them which are actually from the Carrera S I like these wheels a lot and we even have the same brakes but you can option carbon ceramics if you got about eight
grand here is my favorite feature of both models it's an intake for the engine we got very roomy Franck's in both of these I prefer to use the front over the trunk but we don't have grocery bag hangers when you raise the roof if you hold the button up the windows go up too which is pretty convenient when you're leaving the car you don't have to do two things at once just hold the same button and I think that's all the similarities and differences time for me to drive I think so a little bit of
traction loss because it is her real Drive I feel like this road that we do launches on isn't the best of us no it's kind of greasy got a little slick surface to it yeah but this car is fast in most conditions this does have a zero to 1 00 of 4.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package because this is the PDK which is faster than the manual you say that like your team PDK I'm team manual in this case because I like to came in a lot more horsepower and torque the same horsepower 365 but
317 pound-feet of torque slightly more torque so this one launches way harder than the manhole what I like about the PDK is that if you're at a street light and somebody comes up to you maybe you just want to show off gettin g a little rap do a launch control rep and that sounds way more impressive than wow yeah but don't actually like rip it yeah just do the yeah I have also discovered something while driving this car with that how much I friggin love driving the seating position the steering
wheel the speed the sound top down everything in the Boxster makes driving the best and came in for me at the top down part really hit me hard I don't like top down honestly I'm kind of sick of top down you're ge tting too much Sun burns you're not as yes the Sun as I am yeah I guess not I I love top down we'll talk about which one will pick more later I think I've already made my decision I think I might have made my - quite clearly okay also by driving this car and figure out how much I love
driving let's do some cliche corner because I also love ripping through traffic and handling in this car I feel like I'm so within my limits but I'm going as fast as I need to go and I'm just so happy you're balanced you're relaxed you're mid-engined I can talk while driving we do have an LSD everything is perfect this reminds me a lot of the Miata okay okay similar idea it's like the perfect driving thing but you get more power a better seating position nicer amenities a better sound this is
like the Miata on steroids well yeah I love it yeah I figured you would besides the whole engine in a different spot thing yeah that kind of adds a lot to it though cooled seats in this on e we don't have it in the Cayman I'm sure it's an option probably but cooled seats in a convertible is so nice very necessary so it does fit a small cup of coffee but what I find is if you order a large fill it up with medium amount of coffee every time you put it in it moves around a bit cuz it's a little
loose but just clamp it a little tighter and it goes in nowhere I have an issue with these cup holders tell me condensation let's say you order an ice cap or an ice Frappuccino of some sort if you put it here it's gonna start to condensate and it's gonna start to drip on all your expensive electronics yeah yeah I guess other than that I love the cupholders let's touch on infotainment for a minute yeah just a minute apple carplay no Android auto perfection it goes through a cable not
wirelessly perfection the infotainment is pretty basic but you don't need to use it much perfection one thing that's been bothering me and I want to show you this i f I go to source go to my seer satellite radio this button sometimes skips and I don't know if it's like an error or something all right whatever exactly that's why I wish this had steering wheel controls no I don't think this car is special enough to not have steering wheel controls I think the 718 non GTS is I think this one
deserves the GT wheel now want to talk about the gauges in both of these they're perfect they both have the regular old Porsche gauges with the RPM righ t in the middle you know I think this color layout is the most perfect color layout black and white numbers very easy to see not too many dashes and the orange is so visible it's like a highlighter Orange so you can't recreate with a digital dash it's very good contrast I love it I would like the white face gauge that you can option I don't
like the yellow or the red there's not enough contrast with those and I get that but when I was driving the white faced one on the track I c ouldn't see the tach as clearly as I can hear I can fully understand your peripheral this is the most perfect thing ever I feel bad that every other company can trip this off because Porsche got it so right oh yeah it's perfect I'd like to talk about a little bit of a difference not in terms of little gimmicky stuff in terms of actual big stuff which is the
weight between the Cayman and the boxer hit us with it 22 pounds that's it that's so impressive the Boxster weighs 22 pounds mor e than the came in and it doesn't have a roof that is so impressive to me what usually weighs more convertible invertible always weighs more because of all the electronics yeah all the mechanical stuff do good job Porsche yeah and like structural rigidity wise I honestly don't feel a difference I just I don't oh yeah let's do a quick visor test all right three we're
both the Cayman now I don't know if I would want like the career tee seats in this instead of these seats I know you can't option them no but like I prefer these to the Carrera T optional sport seats not for the Carrera T buckets I feel like you can't go wrong with any Porsche seats you can't you really can't so I also want to touch upon the fact that the Boxster and the Cayman are the exact same car ish yes they just give them different names for a convertible and a non convertible that's kind
of cool it is cool a Boxster came around first yes it did and that is a boxer engine plus roadster put t ogether whatever one on the comments have been telling me oh yeah and read it yeah and YouTube and YouTube Cayman is a crocodile thing yes it is we know it's crocodile themed because of the Crocs shoe company they had going on oh that's how we know we don't actually know because it's called a caiman which is like a crocodile type thing and it looks like a crocodile that's part of it too
yeah okay I think the closest competitor that we've driven because there are others is the f -type isn't the f-type also a 911 competitor a little bit yes it is kind of because the price range so is the 911 also somewhat of a competitor yes but it's kind of not but it kind of is so this or the f-type I think the f-type is like a girl that you meet an Iron Maiden concert and then this is the girl that you want to take home to your parents she also had the Iron Maiden concert oh no she definitely
wasn't because this girl could scream but not like an f-type oh yeah I guess tha t's what I'm saying now we should get to the price Lynn hit me with it both prices both which one first the least expensive one the Cayman GTS is 105 to 90 which is actually the cheaper one Canadian and the Boxster GTS as its optioned is 114 thousand $320 is this more expensive because it's a convertible slightly the starting price is more expensive and the PDK yes that is another like 4000 issue option and I hope
you guys from the US like those direct u.s. conversion prices yeah i t's not what you can buy the car for in the States that's right it's a direct translation from Canada to us so don't go to your dealers showing them this video with your angry US dollar price I am obviously team came in that is my choice I have made up my mind I want the Cayman with the manual and I love that color I'm team Boxster I can't fully decide but a pretty sharp team Boxster I do want it in the green my neighbor has a
green caiman which is the most perfect looking Porsche I 've ever seen it does look awesome I would like this in the green with the manual transmission fair enough and I'd probably like some fancy seatbelts to rack that price tag up a lot but now is the real question would you take this over a 911 I think I would take this over a bass 911 but I wouldn't take it over anything about that I think I'm still team 911 because as cool as this is at the end of the day don't you kind of just want to say
I've got a 911 you can say I have a Porsche because that I have a Boxster but I wouldn't because I would say I became it could just equally cool its I came in as equally as cool as a 911 saying I have a 911 versus I have attainment that's equally as cool yeah I think saying I have a 911s way cooler let us know what you guys think in the comments don't forget to subscribe hit the notification bell patreon.com slash straight pipes and hit the youtube sponsor will join membership button top-up

driving let's do some cliche corner because I also love ripping through traffic and handling in this car I feel like I'm so within my limits but I'm going as fast as I need to go and I'm just so happy you're balanced you're relaxed you're mid-engined I can talk while driving we do have an LSD everything is perfect this reminds me a lot of the Miata okay okay similar idea it's like the perfect driving thing but you get more power a better seating position nicer amenities a better sound this is
like the Miata on steroids well yeah I love it yeah I figured you would besides the whole engine in a different spot thing yeah that kind of adds a lot to it though cooled seats in this on e we don't have it in the Cayman I'm sure it's an option probably but cooled seats in a convertible is so nice very necessary so it does fit a small cup of coffee but what I find is if you order a large fill it up with medium amount of coffee every time you put it in it moves around a bit cuz it's a little
loose but just clamp it a little tighter and it goes in nowhere I have an issue with these cup holders tell me condensation let's say you order an ice cap or an ice Frappuccino of some sort if you put it here it's gonna start to condensate and it's gonna start to drip on all your expensive electronics yeah yeah I guess other than that I love the cupholders let's touch on infotainment for a minute yeah just a minute apple carplay no Android auto perfection it goes through a cable not
wirelessly perfection the infotainment is pretty basic but you don't need to use it much perfection one thing that's been bothering me and I want to show you this i f I go to source go to my seer satellite radio this button sometimes skips and I don't know if it's like an error or something all right whatever exactly that's why I wish this had steering wheel controls no I don't think this car is special enough to not have steering wheel controls I think the 718 non GTS is I think this one
deserves the GT wheel now want to talk about the gauges in both of these they're perfect they both have the regular old Porsche gauges with the RPM righ t in the middle you know I think this color layout is the most perfect color layout black and white numbers very easy to see not too many dashes and the orange is so visible it's like a highlighter Orange so you can't recreate with a digital dash it's very good contrast I love it I would like the white face gauge that you can option I don't
like the yellow or the red there's not enough contrast with those and I get that but when I was driving the white faced one on the track I c ouldn't see the tach as clearly as I can hear I can fully understand your peripheral this is the most perfect thing ever I feel bad that every other company can trip this off because Porsche got it so right oh yeah it's perfect I'd like to talk about a little bit of a difference not in terms of little gimmicky stuff in terms of actual big stuff which is the
weight between the Cayman and the boxer hit us with it 22 pounds that's it that's so impressive the Boxster weighs 22 pounds mor e than the came in and it doesn't have a roof that is so impressive to me what usually weighs more convertible invertible always weighs more because of all the electronics yeah all the mechanical stuff do good job Porsche yeah and like structural rigidity wise I honestly don't feel a difference I just I don't oh yeah let's do a quick visor test all right three we're
both the Cayman now I don't know if I would want like the career tee seats in this instead of these seats I know you can't option them no but like I prefer these to the Carrera T optional sport seats not for the Carrera T buckets I feel like you can't go wrong with any Porsche seats you can't you really can't so I also want to touch upon the fact that the Boxster and the Cayman are the exact same car ish yes they just give them different names for a convertible and a non convertible that's kind
of cool it is cool a Boxster came around first yes it did and that is a boxer engine plus roadster put t ogether whatever one on the comments have been telling me oh yeah and read it yeah and YouTube and YouTube Cayman is a crocodile thing yes it is we know it's crocodile themed because of the Crocs shoe company they had going on oh that's how we know we don't actually know because it's called a caiman which is like a crocodile type thing and it looks like a crocodile that's part of it too
yeah okay I think the closest competitor that we've driven because there are others is the f -type isn't the f-type also a 911 competitor a little bit yes it is kind of because the price range so is the 911 also somewhat of a competitor yes but it's kind of not but it kind of is so this or the f-type I think the f-type is like a girl that you meet an Iron Maiden concert and then this is the girl that you want to take home to your parents she also had the Iron Maiden concert oh no she definitely
wasn't because this girl could scream but not like an f-type oh yeah I guess tha t's what I'm saying now we should get to the price Lynn hit me with it both prices both which one first the least expensive one the Cayman GTS is 105 to 90 which is actually the cheaper one Canadian and the Boxster GTS as its optioned is 114 thousand $320 is this more expensive because it's a convertible slightly the starting price is more expensive and the PDK yes that is another like 4000 issue option and I hope
you guys from the US like those direct u.s. conversion prices yeah i t's not what you can buy the car for in the States that's right it's a direct translation from Canada to us so don't go to your dealers showing them this video with your angry US dollar price I am obviously team came in that is my choice I have made up my mind I want the Cayman with the manual and I love that color I'm team Boxster I can't fully decide but a pretty sharp team Boxster I do want it in the green my neighbor has a
green caiman which is the most perfect looking Porsche I 've ever seen it does look awesome I would like this in the green with the manual transmission fair enough and I'd probably like some fancy seatbelts to rack that price tag up a lot but now is the real question would you take this over a 911 I think I would take this over a bass 911 but I wouldn't take it over anything about that I think I'm still team 911 because as cool as this is at the end of the day don't you kind of just want to say
