[Music] I'm taking your gold for a drive [Music] 20:20 mercedes-benz GLS 450 2020 BMW x7m 50 I so this is the seventh series and s-class of SUVs from the two big German brands yeah and the GLS has been refreshed so it's all new and the x7 has never existed before so today we want to find out where your hundred thousand dollars for a luxury SUV will be better spent so let's start with the most important thing horsepower and torque the GLS has 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque from a
three litre inline-six turbo with a mild hybrid system and the ex 750i has 523 horsepower 553 pound-feet of torque from a 4.4 liter twin-turbo v8 okay I'm gonna floor it that was kind of slow I'm gonna floor it yes horsepower so we only drove the X 740i the 50 I I think is perfect for speed so before you guys get really upset in the comments these are not directly comparable for the trims that we have however you can option them to be pretty much identical so the base GLS which is th e 450 has
more horsepower than the base x7 however this x7 has more than the comparable v8 if we got the v8 in the GLS which would be the 580 so if we compare v8 to v8 the x7 is about half a second faster to 100 kilometers versus the GLS so we should probably start by comparing the looks yeah we probably should because these actually look quite different we did do a poll on our instagrams follow us you're a terror and the straight pipes to see which one you guys like better and the answer is the x7 but
only by a little bit and because one of the main things about luxury SUVs is the interior I'm gonna show you both interiors right now what did the poll say for interiors you guys actually mostly preferred the GLS and I think it's because the big screens will look more impressive but we're gonna dive into that in a second which grill do you like more straight up x7 by a long shot that big grill just makes it look so beefy and huge yeah this class of SUV the big gest class should be the
most imposing like this is the 7 series of SUVs and that is the S Class of SUVs I want this to bring fear into people's eyes when they see these on the road but the Benz does look pretty awesome as well like it's pretty much just as big it is just as big but the grille isn't as big so I'm actually upset by that but in my box GLS that they showed off at the Auto Show it pretty much is the exact same size so I think if we got a higher trim it would b e the same yeah the Maybach GLS is actually
pretty nice-looking love that 2-tone which headlights do you like I think the BMW looks more badass but the ones on the GLS have these two little lines in the daytime running light that go up and down and I like that a lot - yeah the GLS almost has that s-class thing where it's the three lines because it is the s-class of SUVs however I do prefer the ones on the BMW because they are more aggressive and we got some blue four laser lights which is really cool and overall front end the GLS actually
has the AMG package so it looks a little bit better than the base then on the x7 there's no Chrome Chrome or the Chrome is either black or colored in like a silvery copper color so that looks a lot better than it feels Chrome side view is there anything that you like about either of them I like the hard body lines on the x7 more than I like the round body lines on the GLS but I think the GLS does look really good on its own I think the GLS is kind of boring from the side there's nothing really
to look at there the x7 has that cool hockey stick thing at the bottom so I do prefer the x7 overall from the side as well yeah and this GLS has that big chrome strip I wonder what it would look like if it was blacked out as well when you say you wonder you mean we already photoshopped it right here and we're showing you right now yes just adding more work for myself to do you know every time I say something like this that's an extra like half hour of editing I have to do so you're welcome yeah
we've got to put in a lot of work to show you guys all this stuff that we just talked about what I don't like about the GLS is that the GL II looks so good with that split back window that comes in and I think that's what makes this fall apart compared to the GL e so wheels let's pick our favorite in three two one bad BMW I really like those more I think these look so cool I triggered my assistant I p refer the design and overall look of the black ones on the BMW yours are super clean and simple
but I think they're a size too small okay and both of these cars do have air ride suspension so we can both go up and both go down which one goes a little bit lower the BMW goes way lower and it looks way more gangster but we do not have the e active body control on the GLS so if you did option that which you can only option on the 580 I believe then there would probably be a little bit mo re similarities in terms of overall ride height we've got to save that for the gimmick comparison
because there are so many similar gimmicks that we need to compare moving on to the back end taillights do you prefer one of the other bands yeah I do like the outlines on the Mercedes they just look a little bit nicer and they both have power lift gates that will work with kick to open which is super nice but even cooler on the BMW you have like tailgate style where the bottom one folds out as well okay and then if we move on to the most bastardized parts of these two cars the exhaust tips yeah
they actually totally screwed that up specifically on the Mercedes yeah so it's just a plug with a chrome thing around it and the exhaust comes in at the bottom but the BMW is not much better because you could see the pipes in-between the exhaust BMW does win this one because the Mercedes is fake on both sides and since we do have the v8 in the BMW this one sounds s o much better so let's have a listen and if we look at both fender arches we've actually got a lot more fender flare on the Mercedes
than the BMW and to end off the looks I think we should talk about the colors the Mercedes is a nice normal classy black but the x7 is an awesome purple yeah it's emoji eggplant purple is that the official name for it it's my official name for it I really like it because it looks black and certain lighting but when you see it in real life it's purple and it's like just enough purple to have a little bit of pizzazz for a luxury car that you should be subtle in and this is one of BMWs individual
colors so you got to pay extra for it but rich people have a lot of money so it shouldn't be a problem right well yeah I mean this is the hundred thousand dollar SUV class I don't think I would spend my hundred thousand dollars on this particular color so which one do you like more on three overall looks wise one two three BMW is it because w hoever Spector's did a bad job it's just a boring spec for Mercedes and for a hundred thousand dollars when you're spending that kind of money specs are
very important and there's so many customizations available in this class yeah it's kind of a bummer that this isn't keeping up with the x7 yeah and again if it was in a different spec it would probably be a lot closer but I still prefer the looks of the x7 and to me I think the thing that kills the looks the most on the Mercedes is the side profile there's just like not much going on especially compared to the GLA so before we get into the interior and all the gimmicks and switch drivers let's
talk about how these drive obviously the x7 is a lot sporty-er if you want the sport of your SUV you get the x7 I'll just say it like that yeah this one is kind of a slug like I floored it and it barely went anywhere and I had to make sure I wasn't in Eco mode I was in comfort yeah and it is faster than the bass x7 but I agreed the feel of it I don't really like it okay are you in comfort I'm a comfort I'm gonna floor it slam your foot down and floor for me and let's see how much delay there is
a little bit of delay but then you're gone and your sounds a lot better inside than this does yeah way better so the power delivery on this v8 is amazing and in terms of transmissions the BMW has a ZF 8-speed auto and it shifts like butter when you want it and it's very aggressive when you put in Sport+ and the Mercedes is so smooth however my biggest complaint about the Mercedes is the paddle timing it's so slow to shift with the paddles in comparison to the BMW yeah I'm not gonna put this
thing in manual because it's not super fast but it is a 9 speed auto and it's always smooth in automatic the mercedes paddles just feel so cheap to me the BMW paddles are pretty much exactly the same as every other BMW and I got no issues with them yeah I think Mercedes downgraded their paddles in the new generation so now overall ride quality and comfort because that's what everybody wants in this class to be perfectly honest they both feel just as comfortable to me I can't really tell the
difference I personally feel that the Mercedes is a little bit more comfortable it's a little bit more floaty over bumps the steering is way lighter which makes it feel more luxurious for some reason so you could live with either one of them comfort wise right oh yeah it wouldn't mak e a difference to me but I think the more comfortable one in comfort mode is the Mercedes but the sporty-er one in sport mode is 100% the x7 and not that anyone's gonna be sending these things into cliche corner as
we are not gonna do either the BMW is the better handling car if you do care about that which I don't right now look straight up I just want to be more comfortable in this class especially of like screaming children or something behind you so I guess now it's time to swit ch drivers and dig into all the little features that both these cars have because there's like a million cool little things we've got to talk about there are a lot of different gimmicks between both of these things but a lot of
the same ones all right here we go oh my god this is slow oh and this has launch control in the x7 which is super awesome for such a big SUV yes if you want the fast one like we said just just get the excel but let's get to the really important stuff the infot ainment and all the gadgets inside so this has the new BMW infotainment that you control with a rotary wheel and in the briseida's bands you're stuck with a touchpad with no rotary wheel option yeah and after spending more time in BMWs
because I was very frustrated with my x5 experience I actually loved the BMW infotainment now how my numbing Leigh painful is it to use that touchpad it's actually really bad I've ended up resorting to just touching the screen most of the time and both infotainment are touchscreen as well and they both have a hey brand-name call to action so that the car can talk to you I'm gonna hit it real quick hey BMW hello what can I help you with nothing Jacob hit it hey Mercedes how may I help you nothing
I think the Mercedes is a little bit faster but I've been using both when I get too frustrated to find anything especially when I'm looking for my sound settings or something and it is kind of useful sound settings yeah we both still do n't like talking to our cars but because this Mercedes is so complex to use with this stupid pad I've actually ended up just saying satellite radio XM 44 and it does work I think they've made it less distracting by making it so difficult to use but I think
overall usability the BMW has to win right yeah I totally agree the BMW is just easier to use so both of these cars have apple carplay but only one of them has Android auto right and it is the Mercedes the apple carplay goes widescreen full on the BMW but it doesn't go full widescreen on the Mercedes then on the Mercedes when you're using the trackpad you'll get like a haptic feedback every time you move it around buddy car play you don't get it so it's even harder to use how nice is it having
car play without a subscription oh yeah cuz BMW backed up on that one previously I said that I understand the decision to end it after 20 years because they don't want to put support on it like a Palm Pilot feel still around however turns out I was wrong and they changed their mind so from now on if anything seems fishy I'm going standby telling them they should stop it because obviously that worked it worked on the Honda volume knob it worked on free apple carplay I am here for you guys now and
I was always here for you guys so I did call them out originally yes they probably only changed it because of you yeah well they still haven't changed Android auto and I'm gonna keep complaining until they do so right after we finished filming this video BMW officially announced Android auto starting next year and it will be wireless we did it people we finally did it I will take full responsibility for that one as well okay so you've got Android auto on the mercedes-benz but it's still not
widescreen but I've got Wireless apple carplay and wireless charging on the BMW I've got a wireless charger in the Mercedes and I have only USB sea ports which I had to actually adjust to because I'm used to regular USB so both of us have really good 360 cameras we both actually have a carwash mode how does the one in the Benz work the GLS will actually do a bunch of stuff in carwash mode it'll fold in the mirrors it'll raise the air suspension it'll turn on your camera's it's actually amazing
in a car wash it's all the stuff that you want and the one in the BMW pretty much looks straight down so you can line your wheels straight up and I guess not scratch them on th ose little rails to drive right in and yeah we did wash the cars for you guys today cuz a couple of you complained last time when we filmed some dirty cars it's snow man it's cold out that's where you're wearing the Hat yeah exactly also you guys will probably now complain that we took it through a touch car wash so
back to the 360 cameras I can do the thing with hand gestures to spin all the way around do you have the 360 mode in your car no I do not have the fancy scroll arou nd 3d mode but I do have 360 cameras but in the 360 camera and all the graphics in my infotainment my car is the purple that it is how about your bends my black gos is silver oh bomber one more point BMW next thing both of these have automatic Parking they both work great but only the BMW has the backup assist which will back you up
the route you took for 50 meters and we both do have steering assistance and driving assistance so I'm going to set mine right now let's see how easy th at is to do and here we go it actually works for very well I also have assisted driving I can turn it on but what the x7 also has is traffic jam assist which when you're under fifty kilometres an hour it'll have another prompt you click the button and in stop-and-go traffic it'll look at your eyes with this little camera so you can keep your
hands off and the thing I noticed about the x7 is we're at high speeds like over 100 kilometers an hour the lane keep does drift way too muc h to be honest I think the benz has this but to be extra honest the palisade kills both of them I appreciate your extra honesty so both of these have rewinding satellite radio stations but only the mercedes-benz has tuned mix which gives that the win but what sucks about the bends is to scroll through all your stations it takes forever because you got to use
your little finger on the trackpad or on the BlackBerry button on the steering wheel we're in the BMW you can just rip that whee l and get the 300 in like a second and the last infotainment gimmick thing that I want to talk about is how the gauges look the actual gauges themselves I definitely prefer the ones in the Mercedes they just look so clean it's hard to find whatever you need to do in the Mercedes but if you scroll down on your infotainment to your moods you can pretty much pick whatever
it'll look like I say you're going offroad or if you're in the lounge it completely changes the looks and adapts or whatever you need to do yeah but the rpm gauge goes the right way in the Mercedes so by default the Mercedes wins no it doesn't because these are luxury SUVs where the RPM doesn't matter I think we've talked about that last x7 video yeah well I'm disagreeing with you now so overall gauges looks wise I think the mercedes-benz does win I actually have won infotainment gimmick for
the Mercedes which I haven't mentioned yet it actually has augmented reality navigation but you're never going to use it but it exists yeah Google Maps is king I don't know why else would use that but it is a very cool feature in here I've got the vitality mode which will play cool music blow some cold air in my face and change the lights around and before we get into the seats who's got better ambient lights obviously the Mercedes the Mercedes has all the cool color combos and everything but
the BMW pops pretty hard off the white interior yeah but the interior color options look way better we got red moon Mercedes still wins but BMW does a good job trying to catch up my Mercedes does not have the optional massage seats but you can get them this just has the seat kinetics we're just kind of moves your seat around yeah so you're not stuck in the same seating position for a whole bunch of hours but the BMW does have massage seats and they are great and they don't really ever cut off
they kind of just stay on for as long as your drive the car and overall seat com fort wise I think that x7 is actually more comfortable especially with the headrest yeah I'm gonna have to agree with you there what we both have is heated and cooled seats and heated armrests but what I have in the Mercedes is heated armrests in the backseat we both also have heated cupholders and cooled cupholders and they both fit small cups of coffee might as well do the visor test three two one pass pass how
about your second visor bro second visor man I do have one yes doubl e visor gang and before we get into all the backseat stuff getting in and out of both of these cars we both have soft closed doors but this BMW is programmed so that when you leave the car it automatically locks and when you come closer it automatically unlocks which is a feature I've never used before but I really like so now let's get into backseat room I am six foot one and a half and I am NOT equally comfortable in both
these cars I am actually more comfortable in every row o f the BMW x7 but which seats are more of a pain to move forward and back to get in the BMW seats are way more of a pain the Mercedes seats work very well it's just one button click and everything moves anything is going to the BMW like takes forever things move and you're like am i pushing the right button not now it starts folding and the actual area of opening to get into the third row is much bigger in the Mercedes so if you do have kids
and you're throwing them back there even tho ugh there is less room in the Mercedes it's probably better in the Mercedes and we both have the eight seat configurations but you can get captains chairs in both of these so now let's talk about trunk room starting with the box test box test 8 9 10 11 12 14 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 so one more box in the GLS which is very cool but we also need to compare the room behind the third row when it's up with our carry-on bags yes so there is actually more room in
the Mercedes so the Mercedes is the bigger car and definitely more convenient if you have the third row up all the time but the load floor is higher than Mercedes and you can actually drop both of these cars air suspension from the back which is really convenient so is that pretty much interest or anything else we're missing I have one last thing that people might care about in this class and it's towing the gos canto seventy seven hundred pounds and I believe the BMW can tow 7,500
pounds although that number was very difficult to find so you started the video off saying these were $100,000 SUVs let's get into the price so the Mercedes GLS 450 starts at ninety three thousand five hundred dollars Canadian the BMW X 740 I which is not the one we're driving starts at ninety two thousand five hundred dollars Canadian so the starting prices of these are very comparable now if we look at the options list the Mercedes GLS 450 is one hundred and five thousand nine hundred ninety
dollars and the BMW x7 is one hundred and thirty four thousand two hundred dollars so obviously the BMW aspect is higher but if you had a GLS 580 it would probably be like right on the button yeah and that's why I said earlier that how you spec it is crucial to your enjoyment of the vehicle but for the most part we can figure out which one we like more and on the count of three which one would you rather live with for the rest of your life one two three accidental ux7 so what's the main reason
for you obviously I like the horsepower of the x7 and I love the soundtrack from that v8 but if you've got the v8 in the Mercedes I still prefer the tone of the BMWs new v8 and I also just like the overall look of the x7 it's just more menacing more aggressive more my style and the interior just works for me the driving and the engine has nothing to do with it I hate the track touch pad in the mercedes-benz and I want them to bring back the scroll wheel until then it's kind of dead to me I a lso
like the gimmicks of the BMW more I like the backup assist I like the 360 cameras more I like we have hard buttons for our favorites and the volume knob I love how we've got Wireless apple carplay and it's full widescreen because I love to see my Google Maps and satellite view the whole time but the only thing that's got me on the fence is that the lane keep assist sucks so bad at high speeds but the stock car rush hour traffic is amazing in the BMW so let us know which one you g uys would pick

very important and there's so many customizations available in this class yeah it's kind of a bummer that this isn't keeping up with the x7 yeah and again if it was in a different spec it would probably be a lot closer but I still prefer the looks of the x7 and to me I think the thing that kills the looks the most on the Mercedes is the side profile there's just like not much going on especially compared to the GLA so before we get into the interior and all the gimmicks and switch drivers let's
talk about how these drive obviously the x7 is a lot sporty-er if you want the sport of your SUV you get the x7 I'll just say it like that yeah this one is kind of a slug like I floored it and it barely went anywhere and I had to make sure I wasn't in Eco mode I was in comfort yeah and it is faster than the bass x7 but I agreed the feel of it I don't really like it okay are you in comfort I'm a comfort I'm gonna floor it slam your foot down and floor for me and let's see how much delay there is
a little bit of delay but then you're gone and your sounds a lot better inside than this does yeah way better so the power delivery on this v8 is amazing and in terms of transmissions the BMW has a ZF 8-speed auto and it shifts like butter when you want it and it's very aggressive when you put in Sport+ and the Mercedes is so smooth however my biggest complaint about the Mercedes is the paddle timing it's so slow to shift with the paddles in comparison to the BMW yeah I'm not gonna put this
thing in manual because it's not super fast but it is a 9 speed auto and it's always smooth in automatic the mercedes paddles just feel so cheap to me the BMW paddles are pretty much exactly the same as every other BMW and I got no issues with them yeah I think Mercedes downgraded their paddles in the new generation so now overall ride quality and comfort because that's what everybody wants in this class to be perfectly honest they both feel just as comfortable to me I can't really tell the
difference I personally feel that the Mercedes is a little bit more comfortable it's a little bit more floaty over bumps the steering is way lighter which makes it feel more luxurious for some reason so you could live with either one of them comfort wise right oh yeah it wouldn't mak e a difference to me but I think the more comfortable one in comfort mode is the Mercedes but the sporty-er one in sport mode is 100% the x7 and not that anyone's gonna be sending these things into cliche corner as
we are not gonna do either the BMW is the better handling car if you do care about that which I don't right now look straight up I just want to be more comfortable in this class especially of like screaming children or something behind you so I guess now it's time to swit ch drivers and dig into all the little features that both these cars have because there's like a million cool little things we've got to talk about there are a lot of different gimmicks between both of these things but a lot of
the same ones all right here we go oh my god this is slow oh and this has launch control in the x7 which is super awesome for such a big SUV yes if you want the fast one like we said just just get the excel but let's get to the really important stuff the infot ainment and all the gadgets inside so this has the new BMW infotainment that you control with a rotary wheel and in the briseida's bands you're stuck with a touchpad with no rotary wheel option yeah and after spending more time in BMWs
because I was very frustrated with my x5 experience I actually loved the BMW infotainment now how my numbing Leigh painful is it to use that touchpad it's actually really bad I've ended up resorting to just touching the screen most of the time and both infotainment are touchscreen as well and they both have a hey brand-name call to action so that the car can talk to you I'm gonna hit it real quick hey BMW hello what can I help you with nothing Jacob hit it hey Mercedes how may I help you nothing
I think the Mercedes is a little bit faster but I've been using both when I get too frustrated to find anything especially when I'm looking for my sound settings or something and it is kind of useful sound settings yeah we both still do n't like talking to our cars but because this Mercedes is so complex to use with this stupid pad I've actually ended up just saying satellite radio XM 44 and it does work I think they've made it less distracting by making it so difficult to use but I think
overall usability the BMW has to win right yeah I totally agree the BMW is just easier to use so both of these cars have apple carplay but only one of them has Android auto right and it is the Mercedes the apple carplay goes widescreen full on the BMW but it doesn't go full widescreen on the Mercedes then on the Mercedes when you're using the trackpad you'll get like a haptic feedback every time you move it around buddy car play you don't get it so it's even harder to use how nice is it having
car play without a subscription oh yeah cuz BMW backed up on that one previously I said that I understand the decision to end it after 20 years because they don't want to put support on it like a Palm Pilot feel still around however turns out I was wrong and they changed their mind so from now on if anything seems fishy I'm going standby telling them they should stop it because obviously that worked it worked on the Honda volume knob it worked on free apple carplay I am here for you guys now and
I was always here for you guys so I did call them out originally yes they probably only changed it because of you yeah well they still haven't changed Android auto and I'm gonna keep complaining until they do so right after we finished filming this video BMW officially announced Android auto starting next year and it will be wireless we did it people we finally did it I will take full responsibility for that one as well okay so you've got Android auto on the mercedes-benz but it's still not
widescreen but I've got Wireless apple carplay and wireless charging on the BMW I've got a wireless charger in the Mercedes and I have only USB sea ports which I had to actually adjust to because I'm used to regular USB so both of us have really good 360 cameras we both actually have a carwash mode how does the one in the Benz work the GLS will actually do a bunch of stuff in carwash mode it'll fold in the mirrors it'll raise the air suspension it'll turn on your camera's it's actually amazing
in a car wash it's all the stuff that you want and the one in the BMW pretty much looks straight down so you can line your wheels straight up and I guess not scratch them on th ose little rails to drive right in and yeah we did wash the cars for you guys today cuz a couple of you complained last time when we filmed some dirty cars it's snow man it's cold out that's where you're wearing the Hat yeah exactly also you guys will probably now complain that we took it through a touch car wash so
back to the 360 cameras I can do the thing with hand gestures to spin all the way around do you have the 360 mode in your car no I do not have the fancy scroll arou nd 3d mode but I do have 360 cameras but in the 360 camera and all the graphics in my infotainment my car is the purple that it is how about your bends my black gos is silver oh bomber one more point BMW next thing both of these have automatic Parking they both work great but only the BMW has the backup assist which will back you up
the route you took for 50 meters and we both do have steering assistance and driving assistance so I'm going to set mine right now let's see how easy th at is to do and here we go it actually works for very well I also have assisted driving I can turn it on but what the x7 also has is traffic jam assist which when you're under fifty kilometres an hour it'll have another prompt you click the button and in stop-and-go traffic it'll look at your eyes with this little camera so you can keep your
hands off and the thing I noticed about the x7 is we're at high speeds like over 100 kilometers an hour the lane keep does drift way too muc h to be honest I think the benz has this but to be extra honest the palisade kills both of them I appreciate your extra honesty so both of these have rewinding satellite radio stations but only the mercedes-benz has tuned mix which gives that the win but what sucks about the bends is to scroll through all your stations it takes forever because you got to use
your little finger on the trackpad or on the BlackBerry button on the steering wheel we're in the BMW you can just rip that whee l and get the 300 in like a second and the last infotainment gimmick thing that I want to talk about is how the gauges look the actual gauges themselves I definitely prefer the ones in the Mercedes they just look so clean it's hard to find whatever you need to do in the Mercedes but if you scroll down on your infotainment to your moods you can pretty much pick whatever
it'll look like I say you're going offroad or if you're in the lounge it completely changes the looks and adapts or whatever you need to do yeah but the rpm gauge goes the right way in the Mercedes so by default the Mercedes wins no it doesn't because these are luxury SUVs where the RPM doesn't matter I think we've talked about that last x7 video yeah well I'm disagreeing with you now so overall gauges looks wise I think the mercedes-benz does win I actually have won infotainment gimmick for
the Mercedes which I haven't mentioned yet it actually has augmented reality navigation but you're never going to use it but it exists yeah Google Maps is king I don't know why else would use that but it is a very cool feature in here I've got the vitality mode which will play cool music blow some cold air in my face and change the lights around and before we get into the seats who's got better ambient lights obviously the Mercedes the Mercedes has all the cool color combos and everything but
the BMW pops pretty hard off the white interior yeah but the interior color options look way better we got red moon Mercedes still wins but BMW does a good job trying to catch up my Mercedes does not have the optional massage seats but you can get them this just has the seat kinetics we're just kind of moves your seat around yeah so you're not stuck in the same seating position for a whole bunch of hours but the BMW does have massage seats and they are great and they don't really ever cut off
they kind of just stay on for as long as your drive the car and overall seat com fort wise I think that x7 is actually more comfortable especially with the headrest yeah I'm gonna have to agree with you there what we both have is heated and cooled seats and heated armrests but what I have in the Mercedes is heated armrests in the backseat we both also have heated cupholders and cooled cupholders and they both fit small cups of coffee might as well do the visor test three two one pass pass how
about your second visor bro second visor man I do have one yes doubl e visor gang and before we get into all the backseat stuff getting in and out of both of these cars we both have soft closed doors but this BMW is programmed so that when you leave the car it automatically locks and when you come closer it automatically unlocks which is a feature I've never used before but I really like so now let's get into backseat room I am six foot one and a half and I am NOT equally comfortable in both
these cars I am actually more comfortable in every row o f the BMW x7 but which seats are more of a pain to move forward and back to get in the BMW seats are way more of a pain the Mercedes seats work very well it's just one button click and everything moves anything is going to the BMW like takes forever things move and you're like am i pushing the right button not now it starts folding and the actual area of opening to get into the third row is much bigger in the Mercedes so if you do have kids
and you're throwing them back there even tho ugh there is less room in the Mercedes it's probably better in the Mercedes and we both have the eight seat configurations but you can get captains chairs in both of these so now let's talk about trunk room starting with the box test box test 8 9 10 11 12 14 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 so one more box in the GLS which is very cool but we also need to compare the room behind the third row when it's up with our carry-on bags yes so there is actually more room in
the Mercedes so the Mercedes is the bigger car and definitely more convenient if you have the third row up all the time but the load floor is higher than Mercedes and you can actually drop both of these cars air suspension from the back which is really convenient so is that pretty much interest or anything else we're missing I have one last thing that people might care about in this class and it's towing the gos canto seventy seven hundred pounds and I believe the BMW can tow 7,500
pounds although that number was very difficult to find so you started the video off saying these were $100,000 SUVs let's get into the price so the Mercedes GLS 450 starts at ninety three thousand five hundred dollars Canadian the BMW X 740 I which is not the one we're driving starts at ninety two thousand five hundred dollars Canadian so the starting prices of these are very comparable now if we look at the options list the Mercedes GLS 450 is one hundred and five thousand nine hundred ninety
dollars and the BMW x7 is one hundred and thirty four thousand two hundred dollars so obviously the BMW aspect is higher but if you had a GLS 580 it would probably be like right on the button yeah and that's why I said earlier that how you spec it is crucial to your enjoyment of the vehicle but for the most part we can figure out which one we like more and on the count of three which one would you rather live with for the rest of your life one two three accidental ux7 so what's the main reason
for you obviously I like the horsepower of the x7 and I love the soundtrack from that v8 but if you've got the v8 in the Mercedes I still prefer the tone of the BMWs new v8 and I also just like the overall look of the x7 it's just more menacing more aggressive more my style and the interior just works for me the driving and the engine has nothing to do with it I hate the track touch pad in the mercedes-benz and I want them to bring back the scroll wheel until then it's kind of dead to me I a lso
like the gimmicks of the BMW more I like the backup assist I like the 360 cameras more I like we have hard buttons for our favorites and the volume knob I love how we've got Wireless apple carplay and it's full widescreen because I love to see my Google Maps and satellite view the whole time but the only thing that's got me on the fence is that the lane keep assist sucks so bad at high speeds but the stock car rush hour traffic is amazing in the BMW so let us know which one you g uys would pick
